10,001 Saves

Post » Tue Apr 28, 2015 11:21 am

Awhile ago people were speculating if there's a limit to the total number of saves you can have and some were suggesting 9999 is the cap. I can't find the thread so I thought I would share that I broke the 10K save mark and can continue to save the game without any issue.

To make this less of a statement and more of a discussion, feel free to share your total save number. This number may seem high to some but I've learned long ago in Oblivion that you must save often and keep more then one save file per character to avoid heartache.

wow, thats a lot of saves haha

think my highest was somewhere in the mid 200s? I delete all my saves when i make a new character, so i never had anywhere near as many as you.. and considering ti feels like the more saves you have the longer it takes to load one, I can't even imagine having as many as you haha

I think you misunderstand, it's not 10,000 separate files, it's the total number of hard saves. I have about 20 separate save files for all of my characters. I can't even imagine the load times if I had thousands of separate files...I would have to load the game the night before I want to play :P

A few hundred of these saves are from resetting a shopkeeps inventory to unload loot or to try and find a specific item....it's a game that I've been playing since release night so the number isn't that ridiculous (I hope ha)

I think I've gone over 700 a couple of times. I delete the saves after I finish playing a character so my save game numbers start over with each game.

I've got a bunch. Each character has their "set" of save files. However, since I'm on PC, I move the files to their character's folder and keep my actual "My Games/Skyrim/Saves" folder with just my latest hard save and the quick/autosaves. I may get up to 10-20 saves during a session, but when I quit, I move all the "unnecessary" files.

I think mine went into four figures the other night. I clean out the riffraff from the directory every so often, so I guess it's about time to do it again.

I don't see any difference in load times from having a lot of files. Larger files take longer than new-character smaller ones, but that's the only difference I can detect.

I've probably gone through >10K Saves, but that was across three different PCs ( upgrades involving better hard drives). New PC, new character, might as well do a fresh install and dump the old Saved games folder. My current game is showing 3112 as the most recent hard save.

The Time needed to scroll through older Saves, for example when the Save can be viewed with the sreenshot and where the Save was made, becomes significantly longer. I have never had an issue with unmodded Saved Games becoming Unloadable by having a large number of Saved Games in Skyrim.

With Fallout New Vegas, older Saved Games may not load properly if too many Saves are present, I was near the numerical limit.

My original character from 11-11-11 had over 7k saves. Of course, it was my obsession on making sure I save every 5 mins but also I logged a lot of hours on him.

Over 8000 saves. I was afraid I had to delete them after reaching the cap, now I'm not. Thanks for sharing your experience :D!

I think I'm close to 1k with my current character.

Like some others, I do keep separate folders for each character and I name them "lauren1", "kayla1"...etc. I make new hard saves regularly, just in case I do something wrong or an installed mod [censored]s up my game.

I managed to get to about 1000 on the 360. Never went higher than that.

I just got into the 2500's. I've deleted most but I still have 10-15 saves per character and I have kept about 15-20 characters out of the 40+ that I have made. But I use quick save more than numbered saves, good thing those aren't separate.

I save my game all the time while playing ... but I'm on PC and only keep 1 character's save files on the game at a time so I don't accidentally save over someone. When I switch to a different character and import the saved game the counter often resets. Long story short, I don't know the exact number of game saves that I have ... probably a few thousand though.
