100 Dungeons to many? less?

Post » Sun Mar 07, 2010 7:40 pm

120 dungeons and 100 locations which are not dungeons, such as a bandit camp. So I think we have a lot of places to explore in total :)

I think this might be a problem, 130 had been enough in Oblivion as all dungeons was level scaled, you could keep exploring new ones and they all would be fitting.

However in Skyrim the you need dungeons that roughly fit your level. If they have level 1-10, 10-20 up to 40-50 type dungeons you end up with around 25 dungeons fit for a level 50 character, now many perhaps most of them are small, the lower level ones will be a walkover and pretty boring then you are maxed out.
So I hope we get many high level dungeons, also hope we get respawing, and a smarter one than in Oblivion.

I'vre heard that they are still making dungeons and will be doing so right up until release.

So in previous interviews Todd Howard has said their are already as many as 100 dungeons made (about 50% small 30 minute dungeons and the other 50% or so epic hourly dungeons). Do you think this will be more than enough? Maybe too much? I personally think it won't be enough, yet i am also an addicted dungeon crawler.

Your Opinions? :twirl:

Todd howard said 130+ dungeons. Not sure about console users, but as a PC user, that's enough for me.

I'd like to see at least a couple of epic four hour(ish) dungeons. Perhaps something in the style of Baldurs Gate 2: Throne of Bhaal's Watcher's Keep dungeon or LotR's Moria, under one of those big mountains. The type when after about an hour you feel totaly cut off from the surface and saftey: dangerous but the rewards are good. Some Morrowind style water filled ones would be great too.

This is a tough question to answer for me. I like dungeon crawling and when I hear the word "dungeon" I think of a sizable underground place to explore, not some niche cave or cavern with just a few tunnels. I guess 100 seems good enough....just barely really so hope they respawn and hopefully with different inhabitants. Would be cool to have cleared out a dungeon of animals then some human cult or vamps move in later as an example.

If that's not enough dungeons, couldn't some mods be built to add more ?

I don't think Todd actually said 50% would be epic 2 hour affairs. It was more like '50% are short 15 minute dungeons whereas some are large one to two hour epic dungeons.' Obviously thats not word for word.

As for the amount 140 sounds fine, particularly with a bigger team and an apparent wealth of puzzles and traps. I just hope a fair amount revolve around inspecting items in the new 3d menu style or reading through books to try and glean clues about certain dungeons or puzzles.

Even though its less than half of OB amount I am fine with the number do to the significant increase in the dungeon team they should be of much higher quality compared to OB.

Also the amount is not that relevant anyway. There will be a lot of dungeon mods. So those hardcoe fans will not have to worry about running out of dungeons.

Didn't they say that they were not done adding dungeons yet? That 120 to 130+ was simply the current # and that there would probably be more than that?

I've heard that, but frankly if they're just adding more dungeons for the sake of...well, more, then I'd rather they focus on something else like lycanthropy or mounts. Of course if they still have some epic ideas for dungeons then fair enough.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see how the quality/quantity thing balanced out.

I think even 140 is a bit much for a world of Skyrim's size. I do not want it to be like oblivion, every three feet some bs ruin pops up. Makes the world cluttered. And considering Skyrim is smaller, we don't want that.

You know, I dont want a huge amount of dungeons. I want a good number, but like many others have said, in oblivion you find a dungeon, whistle a jaunty tune and bam new one. I'd PREFER 10-15 percent fewer dungeons than oblivion (if not more), but making them larger and more varied. That'd be PERFECT

As much as I love dungeons, I'd say 130~140 dungeons are enough. Considering the size of the map(Skyrim), more, like one comment suggested, around 500, would probably cover the entire area. Not literally. I wouldn't want to see a dungeon anywhere I go...

Last I read it was somewhere in the 130+ range and yes I agree that will probably not be enough for me, for I also enjoy the dungeon crawl.

More is always better as long as they are all unique! I don't want 100 copy cat dungeons like in oblivion, it cheapens the experience of every one.

Well with LESS dungeons youll be doing that even more.

My question is, what will happen to those random quests when we have visited every dungeon, where else would it choose as a quest location?

They need more underwater hidden caves and dungeons. And also i would like to see when you go into a tomb or something and you find the "lost/hidden" treasure and when you open it a ton of monsters spawn and you have to fight your way out ;).

even better a indiana jones style dungeon where when u get the treasure the walls start closing in and the place starts shaking apart >:D. tho a dungeon like that could only be used once since it would end up destroyed i suppose :L

Sometimes less is more. Remember you gotta be able to fit these dungeons into the geography of the map. I certainly wouldn't want a dungeon every 2 steps! It will be balanced so it feels right and enough for a few hundred hour play through.

I honestly like that there are some 15 minute dungeons now. Reminds me of MW there were some tombs that you'd just poke in for a few minutes and be on your way. I don't want to spend an hour in every dungeon every time.

I'm all for a lot of dungeons, but not at the expense of a poorly spaced environment. In OB, for example, you couldn't toss a rock without hitting another dungeon door, which didn't feel like exploration at times. I'd like well-designed and well-dispersed dungeons as opposed to finding one around every tree and boulder.

More, more of everything
Nothing can beat the feeling when you have been in dungeon for hour or two, lost and can't find exit without map.
Or even with map

I think 500 would be enough (just take those 100 dungeons/caves and multiply by 5, make some minor changes, while remaining same style)
repetitive? maybe, but it would be enough to actually do some world investigating, without fearing that Radiant Story will run out of dungeons (as far as I understood it prefers places you haven't been yet)

I really hope they never listen to ideas like yours. I don't want Skyrim to be another Dragon Age 2.
