100 Dungeons to many? less?

Post » Sun Mar 07, 2010 1:21 pm

So in previous interviews Todd Howard has said their are already as many as 100 dungeons made (about 50% small 30 minute dungeons and the other 50% or so epic hourly dungeons). Do you think this will be more than enough? Maybe too much? I personally think it won't be enough, yet i am also an addicted dungeon crawler.

Your Opinions? :twirl:

Last I read it was somewhere in the 130+ range and yes I agree that will probably not be enough for me, for I also enjoy the dungeon crawl.

I heard "about 140 dungeons" + "100plus points of interest", it should be more than enough. Though I wouldn't object to more.

you gotta remember they significantly increased the dungeon team but reduced dungeon numbers.

This is to make them very diverse and offer fun experiences + puzzles. They seem to be going for a quality over quantity approach for certain things.

More, more of everything
Nothing can beat the feeling when you have been in dungeon for hour or two, lost and can't find exit without map.
Or even with map

I think 500 would be enough (just take those 100 dungeons/caves and multiply by 5, make some minor changes, while remaining same style)
repetitive? maybe, but it would be enough to actually do some world investigating, without fearing that Radiant Story will run out of dungeons (as far as I understood it prefers places you haven't been yet)

Well if there are over 130 dungeons and 100 points of interest as Todd mentioned and with the added attention to each area I would not complain about the numbers.

Well with over 120+ dungeons, 100 points of interests, all the towns and main cities, etc, that is probably enough for me from the vanilla game. Mods will give me more if I need it. Plus I'll probably have 2 or 3 different characters I'll be playing (melee, stealth, magic) so I'll experience everything at least 3 times with 3 different play styles.

No thanks, a cramped world with repetitive and non-notable dungeons is what we got with Oblivion. More infrequent, but deeper and more unique dungeons is a far better way to go, I say.

I assume these dungeons will repopulate with enemies and loot after a certain period of time, correct? So I can just rerun the dungeons? I love that aspect and it makes me feel like the amount of dungeons is way more than what really exists.

How many did Oblivion have? Give me a basis of comparison.

Oblivion launched with about 200 dungeons... i think. As of right now 100 is quite a bit I'm sure there will be more. I would be happy with the same amount as oblivion.

Quality over quantity.

If you want more dungeons, it shouldn't be too hard to mod it Oblivion style and just copy dozens of dungeon designs, changing them slightly.

I like lot's of dungeons, 100-140 dungeons is a good range considering there will be locations that aren't dungeons

Slight offtopic, but maybe someone knows
Does Radiant Story uses only original locations or it is possible to add locations to list?
Also will Radiant Story will be usable for mod quests?

Anyway as soon as TES5 comes out I'll start to build Nirn, province by province. Sounds as hard task, but I'm one stubborn a-hole :hubbahubba:

Which is good, there were plenty of dungeons & caves in Oblivion and some I never did even go into out of all my playthroughs & mods.

Yeah, quality rocks. And actually.. I really wouldn't mind less dungeons either way. Oblivion was a little too pushy with them all over the place in my opinion. It was like every 100 yards a new location marker would pop up. Which was cool at first... but, yeah, then the repetitive-ness kicked in, and it became less of a thrill to go out and explore. What was it? They had.. 2 people doing dungeon design before? Now it's around.. 8? Something like that?... also remember Todd saying something like they definitely wanted to make the dungeons feel like much more of a journey.. a struggle... much more of a reward for exploring and finding them, and surviving. Instead of 10 minute holes in the hill, they want more in-depth and detailed, some, hour-long adventures. So 100+ dungeons like that sounds great to me... especially along side the 'points of interest'. :D

I can't wrap my head around the paradox that your sig creates.

But is your point that if there are less dungeons to begin with you have to copy them more times to get the same number? This isn't really a fair way to present that as I'm pretty sure Oblivion did not have 500+ dungeons.

there had better be a [censored]-ton of creative quests.

They need more underwater hidden caves and dungeons. And also i would like to see when you go into a tomb or something and you find the "lost/hidden" treasure and when you open it a ton of monsters spawn and you have to fight your way out ;).

We are currently around a hundred and twenty, which is a lot, and then we have, what we call "POIs, Points of interest", like, little mini, encounters, that we have outside that might just be an altar with some necromancers around it, something like that, and there is well over a hundred of those, at last count, I don't have an exact number of that either. The numbers get so big that we stop counting, these kind of things, a lot, yeah.

Some of those are tiny, so that number is very big, I'd say, at least half of those are small, you go in, you come out, it might have been fifteen minutes, but you feel like you've accomplished something. And they range from that to the one to two hours epic dungeon.

It's 120+. And that's honestly great if they're all hand-crafted.

Let's see 120 dungeons, 100 points of interest and who knows what over locations like a Dungeon below a castle or a sewers area. It's a lower number then Oblivion but each dungeon is probably going to be unique. More Vilverin type dungeons/ Lost Boy Cavern/ etc is a good thing.

They have 8 people working on them, there might as well be plenty to explore, and since nothing is copied and pasted, it's even better!
