Too true, too true. It's so hard to find charitable organizations that aren't up to their neck in corruption.
As for the kid, yeah great for him. But that much money could of course have been spent to save the lives of many children who actually have curable illnesses. So I can't award +1000 points to anyone for making that logical error, even though it's a nice story.
That much money? First of all, no one here has a clue how much money it took to make this all possible - I've looked through the article and on Google and haven't been able to find a dollar amount. But from what I've been able to find (though not verify) the police escort was actually a drill for the Presidential motorcade which Electron Boy and crew became a part of, so the freeway closures and such were already part of the drill and thus can't be counted against the "cost." Secondly, Make-A-Wish, like thousands of other charities, makes its money through donations by individuals and corporations. The people want to donate to Make-A-Wish, knowing that their money will go towards making a child with a (possibly) terminal illness happy. In all probability they also make donations to various other charities that provide necessary medical care to young children that can't afford it. Regardless, no one here has the right to say "That money should be spent elsewhere" - it's not a "logical error" to try and make a child - who might die any day - happy for just one day when that money might otherwise have been spent feeding other children. If we held to logic in making our decisions... well, the world would be a very different place.
Also, on an unrelated note, there is more than enough food produced today to feed everyone on the planet. The problem is distribution and access to food.
