Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 9:38 am

Can't find the old thread guys, and we're a couple weeks in now, so...

1001 THINGS ABOUT SKYRIM YOU WISH YOU KNEW FROM THE START!

I'll go first then.

1. In the Quest Log, the ORNAMENTS on either side of the QUEST NAME represent what kind of questline it is.

Deadric quests have Daedric markings, Companion quests have wolves, Main quest has dragons, etc!

Go.

-Watching other people play, Ive seen that they are too stupid to check the settings menu for remapping buttons and customizing stuff.

-Rotating the camera when your weapon is drawn took me a while to figure out.

You can have two dogs and your hireling as permanent followers. Barbas has to be one of the dogs.

I HATE Barbas. He will not stop barking and if I'm standing there he nudges me relentlessly. This is especially annoying when I'm trying to target items to pick up, as the nudge literally moves my character.

Barbas is a flea-ridden cretin. Vaguely regret not caving his head in.

I did not know you could walk over encumbered.
That X unlocks the shout and the bottom right corner shows how many souls you have.

- That there are no real options in the Main Quests.
Would have saved me a lot of hassle trying to roleplay my first character.

  • Walking with the bow drawn and arrow loaded is faster when over encumbered.
  • Shooting arrows will cause people to walk to where the arrow landed.
  • Horse carriages make traveling to big cities much easier (one is near whiterun stables).
  • Dual weapon speed is determinded by the weapon in the left hand.
  • Daggers don't benefit from the 'fortify one hand' enchantment or potion.
  • Alchemy experience is dependent on the value of the poison/potion made.
  • Lockpick perks aren't really needed as you can pick high level locks at low levels, lockpicks are very common to find/buy.
  • Speech perks are nice to have, but IMO are a waste as you can gain vast amounts of money without them.
  • Alchemy and to a lesser extent enchanting, are great ways to make money.
  • Going from Whiterun > Riften > Solitude buying all alchemy ingredients from shops is a good way to stock up on ingredients, as all of them stock up in the time you fast travel. You can also add markath or DB sanctuary to that route.
  • Start the DB quest by speaking to a innkeeper about rumors, you should find one about a boy called avento something, he will ask you to kill someone. The DB will then contact you.
  • Being married is useful, go to riften, into the inn and speak to the priest there, that will start the marriage quest. Marriage can get you a property, and regular income from your spouses shop as well as a new vendor.

That disenchanting a set of boots that give you 20 more carrying weight is not a good idea, as you can't re-enchant that much back onto your own set.

-If you go over an oil spill in a dungeon, with a torch in your hand, the spill WILL be set ablaze, even if no fire touches it

doesn't this just depend on your level in enchanting?

I thought it was dependant on the perk and soul gem. I used a grand soulgem with one of the enchanting perks and only got an extra 7 added on :banghead:

I wish I'd known about the marriage between Bethesda and Steam, how few places my character could choose to buy a home in, and that I'd need to get maps off the Internet if I wanted my character to be able to walk anywhere.

I am pretty much liking playing the game, though.
