Because the online store bought them in bulk at a discount and wants to move them as fast as possible before the market starts to dry up and the game becomes naturally discounted. They don't want to hold inventory.

Convince Zenimax to move it's operations to Sweden . . . problem solved.
This entire fiasco could have been avoided if he would have done a little research or just simply typed "ESO deals" in google.
I remember paying $50 dollars for Legend of Zelda on my first edition Nintendo, or $40.00 for every EQ expansion each year for over 13 years (there are like 20 expansions btw) for like 5 levels and few new zones. So 80 bucks for a new game with over 200+ hours of gameplay at launch isn't that big of an issue.
Why do I not remember NES or SNES games costing that much? $50-60 maybe.
Is that 49.99 for the IE?? If so, that's about in line with what we are paying in the US. Also, this isn't some singleplayer game anymore. Bethesda has stated that this is the largest ES "world" ever created and we can expect regular 4-6 week updates, for the cost of the sub fee. Although I doubt they will be able to keep up with their update schedule, cause almost all MMO dev companies say 4-6 weeks for content updates, then it takes like 2-3 months instead.
yes you're absolutely right, bethesda should cut you and only you some slack and completely ignore laws they are abiding by and sell you the game for a lot less.
seriously though I don't think I have seen a single post from you that hasn't been [censored]ing about something
Swedes pay 70% of salary in taxes http://www.thelocal.se/20121018/43900 ya i would be pissed to, haha
It works somehow different.
When I go to ZOS site they show game in my local currency price and then it costs 100$ (when exchanged).
But if I say I live in US then the game costs 64$.
There is something wrong because (in most cases) when I buy something from US then they simply show price in USD and I pay directly in USD from my credit card (or PayPal). These prices has nothing with taxes because it is sold directly from the company.
Not at all. the price is correct. Check your account there .
Shall have an imperial picture now and early acess.
All extras will come at the 4th earlyest.
/edit: the boxes are that expensive incause they are almost sold out and got limited physical , touchable extras .
And the taxes.. well.. I dont know what you have to pay extra. Tryed an other payment method?
My 19% taxes where already included. at my about 50 EU
I think that most players comparing prices seem to forget that games change. You could by Doom back in the day for $15. But you get Doom. Game prices have seen little increase since xbox where the average was between 49 and 70 for a title. Now games must meet a higher standard and have more expensive long term operating costs. The costs are driven by the markets desire for an improved and new product. Compared to previous mmo or elder scrolls titles this game has made substancial changes and added feature. Notice I did not say improvment because that is subjective to your opinion, but none the less is you wish to build on prior games then the cost will rise. This is always the case when a developer tries something new or cutting edge.
Its up to you if that improvement is worth your money.
Also donot blame any online shop for pricing, regardless what they would like to do, say unified pricing, is subject to factors outside their and your control like then IRS and free trade agreement terms. Either way nothing can be done about it in the short term, but if you are seriousabout this problem I suggest petitioning your local politicians or gathering support from other local gamers/online shoppers to influnce these agreements.
According to hearsay, some have gone up that high, but normally used to sit between $45 - $60.
Everything with a price other than "free" is something that only people with a salary are able to afford.
Hmmm... email their customer support, they are VERY quick, had an issue today wanting to change my userid and had a reply witin 30 minutes and then exchanged 10 emails over the next hour to get it fixed... maybe they can explain it to you or fix it for you.
Thats the beauty of capitalism. If you dont think it's worth it, don't buy it. If others feel the same way the market will correct itself.
That said, seems like the easy solution to this is to find a sale to save some dough or (without sounding too snarky) find a game that is more suited to your income level.
Not sure where forum posts complaining fits in to getting this fixed...
OP: Take comfort your tax monies are providing services to those who can't afford to game at all.......See, your really helping those less fortunate with your purchase, you should be happy.
it pays itself back in free medical bills, education, etc.
Weren't they the ones looking at making an income cap? God, why do I not live there this very moment.
