10mm ONLY!

Post » Thu Jan 21, 2016 11:26 pm

My latest character (3rd play-through) I envisioned as a sort of former pre-war black-hat hacker that was roped into serving with the military to stay out of prison. Anyway I figured his favorite weapon would be the 10mm pistol and that he would also be a bit of a handgun nut/expert.

So now at level 45 he still only uses handguns but he has three that he cycles through depending on range and how bad the enemy is.

10mm

Laser Pistol

Plasma Pistol

But I tell ya I just ENJOY using the 10mm more! I love the visual, the sound... all of it. I also don't like the ash piles and goo piles left behind by the other two...from what I have read they potentially could cause save file problems when they reach a certain extreme number. So I find myself "cleaning up" via console commands and that's kind of a pain.

So I think I'll just build me a long range 10mm (with better optics and longer barrel) and continue using stealth and my standard barreled glow-sighted 10mm as primary. Withe the right perks (and luck) I think the 10mm could be viable all the way through.

I love the fact that with weapon mods you can keep using and improving the first gun you find in the game. I'm attached to 10mm as well. I have a freezing suppressed 10mm that's just devastating.

Definitely love the 10mm.

I'm more of a rifleman but I struggle to say goodbye to the 10mm. In my first playthrough I maxed gunslinger and I had lots of fun.

My first guy went with only the 10mm, a lot of my other guys in Fo3 and NV went with that gun as well. I like the simplicity of it. :)

My Director of the Institute wears Silver Shroud Armor, and uses a modified for high damage 10mm pistol. I look marvelous!

I'm the same way just with the .45 pipe revolver. I just love revolvers, something about being a small weapon with only 6 shots before you have to reload. It was my main weapon for my first play through, although it can take quite a while to kill some creatures with.. Like the Bohemoth, we danced around an overpass pillar for about 30-45 minutes...

I'm a big fan of the 10mm also. It's the one I use most.

I found a Legendary one that shoots explosive rounds and then I modded it at the weapons workbench. I put a silencer on it and maxed out everything else that I could. I've found several other Legendary 10mm's since then, but this is my favorite. IIRC I found a two shot one that pretty much did nothing that I could tell.

I have my weapons whittled down to 3. The Explosive Advanced 10mm Pistol, the Overseer's Guardian which I modded from .45 to .308 and put a silencer on it, and a Two Shot Advanced Combat Shotgun for big stuff like Behemoth's, Mirelurk Queens, tough Deathclaws. Although, I can take a Deathclaw out if I'm hidden with 3 shots of the modded Overseer's Guardian.

I love it, used it constantly and as a backup for several of my playthroughs. Not using it on this one because I have a Beretta M9 with a short barrel that uses .38 ammo, got the mod off the Nexus. With upgraded receiver and 5 ranks of Gunslinger, it does 90 damage per hit, when the 10mm tops out at 65. I use mods that reduce the loot, so something that hits hard and uses cheap ammo is a must. It's my favorite indoor weapon.

My main went Silver Shroud Armor and a .44 Revolver honestly. Just looks so amazing.

But I do agree. 10mm pistol is really beautiful but I have a thing for the .44...

Agreed OP. To me, it's the best feeling weapon in the game. Looks right, sounds right, recoils about right, appropriate performance. Still using it at level 80. I have "magical" double shots in semi-auto and auto.

If Bethesda doesn't come through with a 1911 style handgun, my evil plan and quick fix once the GECK comes out, is to make myself a custom one and re-chamber it in .45 and up the values slightly to outperform the magical weapons.

It's the one weapon I think they got absolutely right. Wish the rest of them had followed suit.

Of course you realize that makes no sense? .38 should do maybe 60% of what the 10mm does.

My Sneak Assassin still has his original 10mm Pistol, modded to heck. Suppressor, Recon Sights, It's my baby and I pimped it out the best I could.

I rotate between three of my legendary 10mm weapons - One that has a chance to freeze, one that may fill your critical meter and one that does additional radiation damage. I like the 10mms because they are small so they don't take up a lot of screen when sneaking around. I also modded the heck out of all of them. They are definitely my go to weapons, along with Overseer's Guardian.

Yep they really got the 10 right. On your .45 idea....sounds good but remember the .45 should just slightly edge out the 10mm IMHO. The real world 10mm at the hottest loadings are more powerful than a .45. Something like a 180 grain bullet @ 1200 FPS versus the .45 ACP with a 230 grain bullet @ 850. That's a really hot 10mm load though....most are milder than that anymore.

While not a 10mm pistol (well not like the ones everyone else is talking about: The standard 10mm heavily upgraded) I am a huge fan of the deliverer pistol you get from the railroad.

Now that, that is a thing of beauty. Along with my 2 shot .44 its the only weapon that never leaves my inventory, got it early and never put it down.

Can you kill higher level super mutants with 10mm, how many rounds ? I always would have to throw grenades to finish the job, they get kind of annoying on "normal"even with larger rounds.

I killed an Alpha Death Claw earlier with my 10mm. Took nearly 2 magazines.....and he nearly killed me. But I survived! (level 46 at the time)

I think the 10mm is a bit huge it looks like it was designed for a Power Armor Hand but not for a Human Hand. The modded Version has the same Size like an MP5.

10mm Pistol is the only semi-automatic pistol you will ever need.

Well, and the Deliverer.

Yeah, I agree. I'd only slightly up the DAM, but reduce the range to compensate. Really want the effect of knocking a human-size target back or spinning them around with a wing shot, but I don't think I'll be able to replicate that exactly...although the game handles limb DAM pretty well. Maybe edit it with a Limb DAM multiplier. Use it for CQB, and keep the 10 as the standard sidearm for outdoor forays.

Like I said quick fix, but hopefully one of these hot modders will get us a real one soon enough.

Too bad we can't actually do this sort of thing in-game anymore. I thoroughly enjoyed the handloader mechanic. A little tedious, but worth the effort. And on hardcoe, I didn't have to carry near as many rounds.

I love my 10mm. I found a legendary that does 50% limb damage and when combining that with the maxed out Gunslinger perk I am a force to be reckoned with. My problem is finding ammo!! I always run out.

Yeah, been shooting for about 20 years, and spent some time in the Army. I just like the practicality of it. Game doesn't make a lot of sense period when it comes to guns. Rechambering a rifle in .50 BMG that does only a little more than .308, DMR style rifles chambered in .45, that giant assault rifle, smoothbore pipe weapons with sniper rifle accuracy, chambering a round on a magazine reload when the weapon isn't empty, spinning a revolver cylinder, cocking a double action, rifle rounds not doing enough damage in comparison, ect.

Not to mention people taking multiple rifle headshots. I have a damage mod I use for this, not perfect, but not even raider veterans or survivalists take more than 2 headshots to kill.

Anyways, I shoot people in the head with it. Getting shot in the head with a .38 would make you just as dead as if it was a 10mm.

I figure the guns in the game use FMJ, seems like hollow points would be harder to manufacture.

As far as guns go, yeah, it would have been nice to see a 1911 in the game. I think the modder that made the M9 is working on one now. He made a 5.56 FAL variant and an AK, they have some modeling issues but are fun to use. Also, a Glock, if any handgun would survive a 200 year apocalypse, it would be that.

The problem with the Deliverer is it's way too small to be chambered in 10mm. This is only a "problem" for people who know a little about real guns. :liplick:

Working with the calibers already in-game they should have made the Deliverer a .38. That's still not quite 'right" ....but makes a little more sense!
