11th race

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 2:04 pm

The criteria for another race is that it has to be one that can do the same things as all the other races and reasonably blend in with the in-game world the same as the rest.

Daedra? Dwemer? Sloads? These races do not fit the criteria.

Personally, I think 10 races is plenty. Plus, it's a nice even number.

^This pretty much

Although I would like to see Sload or Imga, which is only a logical follow-up of my opinion that we need a TES: Valenwood/Elsweyr. ;)

The only other race I'd ever like to see in Skyrim as Playable, would be the Tsaesci of Akavir as a third Beast Race. Doing them justice is probably an insurmountable challenge though.

10 is already plenty, and I think it's hard to make Dremora, Tsaesci or Sload playable without it being ridiculous.

Yeah, I have a hard time seeing Bethesda add dialogue for every single NPC for when they remark about what a weird-looking snake-guy you are. The only way Beth could add Tsaesci as a playable race is to add them in a completely new TES game, where it's already established that they exist in that area. And I think even that is pretty unlikely (unless the area in question is on Akavir, of course).

Don't quote me on this, but I swear I read some lore related text describing the existence of some bird men kind of things (NOT like hagravens)
They'd be cool. I'd just love to see more beast races

I'd like to see the Tsaesci and the Kamal. They're already firmly established in the lore, they sound both aesthetically and culturally interesting, and they're beasts.

Actually the Tsaesci are definitely the most "Asian" of all the known races in the world. The tanto, katana, and dai-katana were all invented in Akavir, and http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Oblivion:Cloud_Ruler_Temple was inspired by Akaviri architectural designs.

Hobbits.
Hobbits are just elf-human half-breeds. That's why they're also known as Halflings.

But... there is no Asia on Nirn.

On the topic, I'd like me some Maormer.

There's no Scandinavia but we got Nords.

Still, http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Lore:Nord aren't http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nordic_race.
May be based on them, but technically not the actual real-world (sub-)race.
It's like saying Bretons are Britons. Some TES races can be heavily based on real-world cultures, but are still unique and to their own.

Well, they could always make some race from outside of Tamriel, that travels to Tamriel. I myself would like a dog like race. Similar to the Khajit, but dogs.

...and Hulk-ish orcs.

Though I can't think of one, I would like to see some non-elven non-anamalistic race. Not another human race either, but something completely different. I say non elven because anything not a human, cat, or lizard is an elf. I hate that. Even Orcs are a type of -mer. Maybe dwarves, real dwarves not dwemer.

I also think Daedra would be...ok. They would just need to be reworked because the thought of Demons running amok and interacting with regular people sounds kind of stupid to me.

I am not too sure if Akavirs are beast races. As I remember, Blades were the descendents of Akavir Dragonguard and they look human to me.

Mysterious Akavir says that all the men were "eaten" by the Tsaesci. This probably means that the men became one race with the Tsaesci (due to their creation myth that I didn't really read thoroughly or remember much of it because I was drunk when I did).

They are descendants in custom and culture only. Physically speaking they have nothing in common with them. The Tsaesci (denizens of Akavir that heavily influenced the Empire in its early days) are golden-scaled snake people.

Meow. It's Father of the Niben. I can't link or I would.

Bear in mind that it's the only known source that mentions these birdmen, and it speculates that they are extinct.

I think there are only three possibilities that are even, in the most remote sense, possible. I believe Bethesda has already said that they're happy with 10 races anyways - and how would they make a new race different anyways? Not enough skills.

1) Dwemer - It's not unbelievable that there is some Dwemer, Yagrum Bagarn style who somehow managed to escape the doom of his race. But I think it would be hard to really have a Dwemer because he would almost certainly be quarantined or confined by some scholarly body for study. Plus a Dwemer character should receive an incredible reaction from anyone he runs into, similar to as if Big Foot or the Yeti walked into a major city and tried to get food at McDonalds. Pretty much a bad idea.

2) Falmer - There could be long lost clan somewhere. It's unbelievable to think that every single Falmer became slaves of the Dwemer. But a Falmer character would run into similar problems as the Dwemer character - surprise, shock, perhaps even enforced captivity so he could be studied. Plus there's the fact that most Nord characters would have an intense hatred towards your race...

3) Tsaesci - The only plausible one in my mind. Tsaesci ruled as potentates over the Empire for a time, and clearly these are the Akaviri most involved in Tamriel. They're probably not well liked, but honestly I'm a bit surprised they haven't made at least cameo appearances yet in TES.

The Dwemer returning would be as ridiculous as the Protheans returning in Mass Effect, even though it did happen, it totally ruined the mystery and intrigue around them. I liked Yagrum Bagrum as even though he was a living Dwemer his mind and body had been destroyed, if a [censored]load of Dwemer just returned out out nowhere it would feel far too far-fetched. I think that 10 races is plenty enough and people are starting to get a tad greedy when it comes to them, especially when you think about how unique and varied each race is - if not in appearances than in culture.

Personally, I found Javik to be very interesting. Makes me wonder what the Empire was really like before the fall.

But I agree on the Dwemer. Should not be brought back. Only additions I can see that could work would be the Imga and Sea Elves.

Why does no one remember the Lilmothiit? :c
If they ever add another race, it should be a beast race. I mean 4 elves, 4 humans, and 2 beasts?! What's up with that?!
