1932 King Kong novel.

I'm currently reading the original 1932 King Kong novel(I've seen the movie a million times at least, ok maybe less than a million lol), and saw that there were almost 60 men on the ship.

I'm currently at the part where they over run the native camp just after Ann has been snatched by Kong.

After reading that part I started wondering if it is militarily possible for 50 or so men to over run a native camp of hundreds. even with rifles they are still outnumbered at least 5 to 1.

I thought maybe they were scared by the sound of the rifles, but they weren't too scared to kidnap Ann off the ship.

What do you good people think? Could a group of 50 or so men with rifles over run and hold a camp that has hundreds of natives?

Absolutely. The rifles would indeed be terrifying, and most of the natives wouldn't be fighters anyway.

In 1879, approximately 250 troops, mixed wounded British soldiers and Natal Native Contingent troops (Who booked it at the first sign of trouble, leaving the 150 or so Brits) held the hospital at Rourke's Drift against 4000 Zulu soldiers that had just kicked the ass of a full British column at Isandlwana for three days.

It's entirely plausible.

Guns carry with them a number of benefits: Shock, from the sound and flash is just one of the biggest. That shock was one of the biggest factors in Hernan Cortez' conquest of Mexico. Another is range, and finally, if you consider the time frame in which King Kong takes place, you have rapidly reloading semi-automatic weapons. It would be all too easy with 50 men armed with interwar era weapons.

Google is your friend. History is rife with tales of soldiers who are outnumbered and out classed by the enemy who ultimately defeat the enemy.
