1st or 3rd for Play?

Post » Mon Dec 12, 2011 10:54 pm

Hey, all:)

Are people using 1st or 3rd point of view when playing Skyrim?

And are there advantages in using one over the other?

Or does it just depend on a player's preference?

I haven't gotten the game yet, but I am reading forums and keeping up on the game developments good and bad:)

Thks all, for any input:)

3rd person. I like playing with my avatar visible and also being able to adject the view distance. Having a bigger view of the world is more enjoyable for me.

I've always preferred 1st person. The only exceptions are the Hitman games, but that's only because I enjoy seeing the way 47 sneaks up on people with a syringe in his hand. Other than that, I've never played a third person game that I didn't think would be better from a first person point of view.

1st person
no real preference like the poster above me but the game just works better IMO
it's pretty obvious 1st person is the intended POV

I play in 1st person but occasionally switch to 3rd before dialog, if I remember to. Really wish horseback riding were also available in 1st person, travelling would be a lot more immersive. In general I think 3rd person is better for cover based shooters - I'd probably play Mass Effect in 3rd even if 1st person were an option. Human Revolution also managed to come up with a really useful blend of 1st/3rd for their stealth cover system - I've taken advantage of the ability to safely look around corners in 3rd person when stealthing in this game too a couple of times.

I typically used to play games in 3rd person, ffxi, morrowind, oblivion(after the mod came out that made 3rd person viable).

I play skyrim in 1st person because 3rd doesn't feel good. Plus they don't even have 2 second footprints in the snow in this game which is just another typical shortcut on their part.

I usually play in first person but I'll switch to third occasionally when I'm hiding behind some cover on my stealthy character.

first person is better when ur actually doing stuff. like combat... especially archery.... and ranged attacks. when u run around outside tho i wuld use third because it allows u to see everything liek teh beautiful scenery and approaching enemies and enemies coming up just behind u. when running awya i wuld also use third person haha.

I would prefer 3rd person for this game, as I usually enjoy that more, but 3rd person combat in this game is just horrible. It'd be nice if it was just over the shoulder, but instead the camera zooms out way too far and then centers my character in the middle of the screen, making it impossible to see what I'm doing.

I like 1st person because it helps immerse me in the game. I kinda wish you could ride a horse in 1st person (and casting spells would be nice!).

Ranged attacks - 1st person for sure.

Melee and other random crap I use either/or ... I like 3rd person to see my avatar but many of the models Bethesda has made for armor are... bad, so I'll often stick to 1st.

It depends on what sort of character I'm playing. For my dual wielder I always use 1st person, the better to hit them constantly. For my sword and board, I almost always use 3rd person, because it lets you see where your shield is more accurately, as well as give you a larger(and more tactical) view of the battlefield.

3rd person outside of combat, 1st person inside combat ^^

Even with the added crosshair in third person mode, aiming is much less of a hassle in first person.

Third. Ever since Bethesda let me play that way, I have.

I just find it easier to keep straight where I've come from and where I'm going. Also, I've always thought how your equipped weapons are displayed in first person to look silly,

first for me, but now that i know how to change the zoom for PS3 i might switch more often

(for those of you that don't know, while in 3rd person hold down the right stick and adjust the zoom with the left stick)

what, i have a choice? i could swear the game forces me into 3rd person every 5 minutes for some buggy fatality, so i can see how well designed my horse's ass is, and when i want to play as a clumsily controlled were-wolf. i just got used to 3rd person out of necessity.

I prefer 3rd person for almost everything. It lets me see more of the environment. I really only use 1st person for tough battles and gingerly looting nightshade from the inside of a basket.

If you're on PC, there is a mod for that:

3rd person all the way! :D I only use 1st person view when I need to drag items, as that apparently is not possible in 3rd person view!

I find TES is best played in 1st person.

Of course, with Skyrim.. they totally made 3rd person viable.. still prefer 1st though.
