1st or 3rd person?

Post » Thu Jan 02, 2014 9:01 pm

I regret the fact that I'm rubbish at fighting when it comes to 3rd person. I usually run around Skyrim in 3rd person until I come across an enemy. Then I use first person. I keep telling myself everytime I switch to 3rd person that I will NEVER go back to 1st. Never works. :(

How about you?

I am useally 1st person, the game was not really made to fight in third person IMO. I do tend to be in 3rd person outside of battle though, and once in a while i might fight in third person, as i am able to do it to some extent, but still prefer 1st person for this game.

I prefer 1st person since I first played Morrowind. It feels more like I am the character, not behind the character. Archery also feels more rewarding in 1st. I tried 3rd too for swordfighting, and while it's cool to see more field around you and who attacks from behind, I always prefer the 1st with all its penalties.

3rd person because I am not my character. I am a spectator. I also like staring at my characters.

I rarely play in 1st person but when I do I put the sensitivity up to maximum and do 360° spins when doing a power attack that spins the character when in 3rd person.

I play primarily in 3rd. I switch to 1st when in dialog, looking for something or just trying to pick up an apple... and not the damn basket. Then using ranged spells and Archery is better in first.

All of my characters are there own, with their own personality profile. I do not plays as my characters, they are not an extension of myself nor do I live vicariously through them. I am along for the story as a spiritual advisor, of sorts. Hell, I even talk to them...

1ST person almost exclusevely. It's a shame Skyrim has some forced 3RD person moments, I hate those.

I mostly play in 1st person, I use 3rd person while exploring, but I find it difficult to fight or use archery in 3rd person...plus caves and ruins are a nightmare in 3rd person.

I enjoy first person more, I only use third to see my equipment once in a while.

I only play in 3rd-person. I am not my character and I don't want to see the world through my character's eyes.

I switch between the two all the time. The only thing I do strictly in 1st person is archery.

Lots of comments about how one is not their character. Personally, I like to think that I may aswell be. I like to morph into their personalitys to the extent that I... become them. I know this sounds kinda daft, but I like the feeling that I am who I'm playing as.

One of these days I'll make me.. a shy Imperial with shaggy hair. :P Not sure how fun that would be....

1st person only Sir. I don't want to give my character any topographical advantages in combat.

I tend to switch to third person when I want to look at my character. I like to look at her when she is running.

I use a mod which enables her to run like a female as opposed to the default male skeletal movements.

Are you playing an Orc? The other females in the game all have a girly run as far as I'm aware.

Is that the mod that makes females swing their arms like crazy. I hate that.

3rd person because I love my character :lmao:

Steel plate armour, gauntlets, boots with an closed Imperial helmet and Nordic sword/shield = Oblivion/Skyrim legionnaire hybrid. AKA badass.

You're not the only one. The primary reason I got hooked up with Oblivion back in the day, was because of the combat system and the ability to look at the gameworld through the character's "eyes". My first two Skyrim playthroughs were almost entirely in 1st person too.

Nowadays, the situations where I really have to switch to 1st person, are when I want to picking up a really small object (like gold coins) and in-city vampire attack furballs. Any other occasion, depends entirely on my mood.

3rd for wandering, 1st for fighting and dungeon diving. In Oblivion I never switched from 1st person as I didn't care to look at my character and their baby faces but now I can't help but behold the beauty of the beard in all it's glorious glory :P

1st person, unless I want to see what my character looks like in a particular setting, then I switch to 3rd person briefly.

That 1st person logic doesn't make sense, how do you explain watching them from behind? You may not be your character but you're also not their shadow.

I think of it as I'm watching a movie, sometimes we see what the character sees and others we see the character themselves.

First person (if it's an rpg), since then I don't have a character flailing around in the middle of the screen. Also it just feels nicer seeing the world through the character's eyes.
Sometimes I like 3rd-person, though.
