1st vs 3rd POV which one do you prefer ?

Post » Sat Dec 10, 2011 12:28 pm

Well in Skyrim I'm playing mostly in 3rd POV, while in Oblivion I liked playing 1st, dunno why but 1st POV in Skyrim seems too close to my face and I can't see most of the area...

I prefer 3rd person for general traveling and most melee fights, but anything a little difficult I switch back to 1st person...

I picked first but I enjoy using both for different reasons. I don't like combat in third person but it's useful for viewing new armor and weapons and taking screenshots.

I prefer third to travel around in, and first for fighting and looting.

It irritates me a bit that you can't move the camera distance toward/away from your character in third person like you can in oblivion/fallout 3. Sometimes I like to be a long way behind, sometimes close up. As it, I'm stuck with a middle-close distance that I don't particularly like. I find myself switching to first a lot more than I did in their previous games.

I think you can move the cam with the mouse wheel, but you can't rotate around your char like you could in OB.....

But you can... (on the PS3 you hold R3 whilst moving the left anologue stick - so you must be able to on PC and Xbox too)

I use a mix of the two. I find in caves and such that third person can get a bit clunky, so I switch back to first person. I also find it is easier to avoid shooting the ground in front of you if you use first person.

As for third person zoom, it is variable on PC for me, scroll wheel.

I play only in 3rd person. I don't play 1st person games.

You can adjust it, actually...I know how to do it on the Xbox, anyways.

People actually play in third person? I thought it was purely for admiring your character.

I prefer first-person except when I'm going somewhere.

You can hold down the toggle first/third person button (default F on PC) to look at your character all the way round. With your weapons drawn you're stuck on one plane (can't look up/down) but you can still rotate around your character.

It's because the default FOV in Skyrim is atrociously low. If you're on PC, you can change it via a console command - makes it possible to enjoy 1st person view.

I'm not sure if I should admit it publicly, but I always played TES in 3rd person view. Only in Skyrim I changed it to 1st person because I'm playing an archer. I think I'll stick with 1st person for my other playthroughs too, though.

you can actually. On ps3 while in third person, click and hold right thumb stick, then move the left thumb stick forward or backwards.

I tend to melee in 3rd person, sneak (unless looking around corners), shoot bows, and spells that aren't the flamethrows / lasercannon / Extinguisher in 1st.

I played in first person the ~25 hours I put into the PS3 version. I've been playing in 3rd person the 30 hours I've put into the PC version. I'm prone to mild motion sickness when I play first person games on a screen that takes up a large portion of my field of view (ie. my 24" monitor at very close distance, as opposed to my 51" TV at over two meters distance), and playing in 3rd person - with the camera reasonably far back - helps greatly in that regard.
Also Skyrim is the first TES game where I wouldn't rather take motion sickness over the character animations :P.

First person. The animations and interactions between character and terrain etc. aren't good enough for me to use third person exclusively.
