1st person vs 3rd person and male vs female

Post » Sat Sep 25, 2010 11:31 pm

What do you prefer?

Mine:
3rd person (I like to know how my character looks like)
Female (I would rather look at the back of a female TBH)
I am male IRL.

I always play in first person and frequently use 3rd person to check out my character. As for male or female, my first character will be male..I have a much easier time roleplaying a male rather than a female. But I'm sure I'll throw a female into the mix after a bit.

This, but fixed with strikeouts to demonstrate my opinion.

I usually make male characters, although i've rolled a few female characters. I usually do first person but if third person is better i might split my time between both.

Third person is good for running somewhere and being able to see my surroundings, but of course first person for battles.

And that's because third person in Oblivion was impossible to fight with.

Why is Oblivion impossible to fight in 3rd person? I haven't got the game yet.

Todd did say that their 3rd person is now "competitive with third person games on the market".

Not voting in this poll, because like Bo Jackson, in both options I would choose "both."

I constantly switch from 1st to 3rd person, and will play both females and males in Skyrim.

That being said, my first character will be female.

Im play most of the game in first person as a female. The only time I switch out of first person was when I needed to jump or traverse some bit of the envirnmnet the required jumping or climbing or when it was very unclear where I was standing or what I was seeing in a room.

I've never had the urge to 'role play' a female... I seem to be quite a rarity in this department... hmmm

I tend to play mostly in 3rd person, sprinkled with 1st person for those tasks that don't work so well in 3rd. The 3rd person camera in Oblivion was terrible, but there were mods to fix it.

As for what I play, female. Because I have no interest in males.

Your not, most males play as males most of the time. I never have and I can't see myself ever playing as a female.

1st, female. With a little 3rd for screenshots & admiring armor.

I've never RP'd a female character either.

I don't have any problems with female characters.... but, then, I don't really "roleplay" all that hard. I move my combat unit / dress-up doll around on the game board. :)

(One key thing is that I've never in my life considered any character I've made in a game to be an avatar of "me". Never tried to make one look like me, never put myself into a game, etc.)

I would probably be a male they are made for melee while female is more magic. I also would choose 3rd as it seems easier to fight at a close range.

Third-person female. I'm what you call a "minority."

I don't roleplay from the perspective of being my character. It makes it weird and boring. I'm simply watching my character as though she is the main character of a movie and is going about her day to day life in Tamriel. I am not my character, so it makes little sense to see through her eyes all the time. It's useful for gameplay reasons, but I love third-person and I highly prefer it to first.

Judging from countless Oblivion mods, it's seems like many people view the game as a sort of porm simulation, where they get a chance to watch a piece of tail in 3rd person. Pretty pathetic, if you ask me. It's a game.

To answer the questions, I play in the most suitable view for the situation (1st person for combat, archery, magic, item manipulation, etc., and 3rd person for general terrain movement, since you can see then your feet and have more control). I'm male, so that's what I play as.

for oblivion i stuck to 1st person since the 3rd person camera was horrific but for skyrim it depends on how well 3rd person works. Oh and Male since its easier to identify with male characters due to the configuration of my genitalia B)

I mainly play as females when given the choice because badass females are far cooler and less common in games. I never roleplay as myself so I don't find it disturbing at all, since I'm just making an awesome character, not channeling myself through a PC. I mainly play first person, but will play around in third every now and then, maybe use it more if it's done well in Skyrim, but I don't see it replacing first person as my main perspective.
