1up article new info about magic combinations

Post » Wed Mar 30, 2011 4:31 am

Source? All I remember is that Todd said that they definitely wanted to do spell combos, but didn't know it they would make it in.

I think there's something about it in the gamesradar article if I'm not mistaken. It's A good read nonetheless.

Actually I read a few of the articles and from what I read they didn't do a combo, Todd just used detect life to see the enemies ahead and then used what I assume was a frenzy spell to make the two enemies start fighting. He was still going up the mountain when it was done. It was never said he combined the spells like how he used the shield and lightning spells.

He didn't 'fuse' them just used one after the other.

Well, that's how I took it right away, but a few peoples posts seemed to point to the other thing. People trying to confuse me... At any rate, I would think fusing life detect and another spell would help it locate the target and slightly bend towards it. Not help you cast stuff through walls.

i want to see adverse reactions to combining the wrong spells. like being turned into a chicken, or catching your hands on fire.
maybe even some lethal effects for combining the darker spells.

and i want total spell failure too.

If there's a Levitate effect, Levitate + Fire should blast your ass up 50 meters and kill you.

Edit: Better yet, Levitate + Fire should be a Rocket effect - a version of Levitate where you can't control your speed, only your direction, and you move much faster and burn up the spell much faster.

Did he cast the defensive spell then cast lightning at the enemy, or did he actually combine the two spells?

Also several articles have mentioned that u can now use the 3d inventory menu (resident evil style) to solve puzzles but 1up stated that in the situation todd looked at the bottom of the claw statue in his menu to figure out wich order a set of tumblers needed to go into the door that unlocks the treasure room..this is all in relation to the quest lucan gives u to find his family hierloom which was stolen by a thief..wen u get the heirloom u can return then and there or go ahead; examine the claw; and figure out the puzzle to further riches THEN return it.

This all sounds highly set up. Like they made this specifically to show to the press, but we won't have much of this in the actual game. Kind of reminds me of "The shopkeeper liked the character enough to invite them upstairs when the shop closed. She needed to practice her archery skill so she started firing arrows at a target in her room. Her dog started barking, and after a while she got annoyed and cast a paralyze spell on the dog." I'm just not gonna get my hopes up until I actually have the game and see this stuff happening.

man, i hope so. I was so excited when I first read about radiant ai. I know they had to tone it down because it caused too many problems if set too high, but it was blatantly obvious that that whole event was completely scripted to show off "what could happen."

Combos would be cool, but I hope they won't be too powerful if they add them.

The preview articles say it really feels like a living world and NPC's do so much now. I feel confident we're going to see some great stuff.

Spell combos at casting time sound extremely nice. Worth losing spellmaking for, especially if the spell effects (visual and mechanical) are more varied and dramatic as a result. For pure mage characters who plan ahead, it's also the equivalent of having three different spells equipped simultaneously.

Combining lighting with lighting for a mega lighting attack sounds like a kamehameha.

Sweet.

Todd said spell creation took the magic out of magic, which I do agree with. I also think it was stupid how you purchased spells like they were items. One Searing Shot please!

I hope Telekinesis + a projectile spell becomes a projectile that you can control telekinetically.

http://www.1up.com/previews/elder-scrolls-skyrim-seven-things-need-to-know

1 up article says magic combos are being tried out now...it also states u can say cast a detect life spell then use an illiusion spell to make them fight and watch the fight through the walls...the coolest though is when todd cast a shield spell and added chain lighting to it..any enemy that ran at him got electrucuted when they hit the magic shield around him
Also several articles have mentioned that u can now use the 3d inventory menu (resident evil style) to solve puzzles but 1up stated that in the situation todd looked at the bottom of the claw statue in his menu to figure out wich order a set of tumblers needed to go into the door that unlocks the treasure room..this is all in relation to the quest lucan gives u to find his family hierloom which was stolen by a thief..wen u get the heirloom u can return then and there or go ahead; examine the claw; and figure out the puzzle to further riches THEN return it.

Thankyou kindly :)

Although it's the same info,it's nice to see other people's take on it. I was never a massive beast race fan or a mage fan,but things like that look far more appealing now in skyrim. Though i always do a stealth type first, with bow etc,or a monk. :)

It is indeed funny that we went from: "we dont need spell creation. We never used it. It wasnt useful. Cool looking spells are great."
To: "Yes! Now I can combine a shock and a shield spell! epic!"

:brokencomputer:

I guess a division can be made into a group that worships every Bethesda utterance and wants to squash any disagreement, and a group that is (sometimes overly) sceptical and wants to have a debate.
I know I like the debating side more, but thats personal preference.

I do like the news about spell combinations. Maybe, just maybe, it will be as imaginative and fun to use as spellmaking was for me, and it certainly sounds like it makes for great gameplay.

The difference that I see is that spell creation was very much like picking out an item. "I need something better than this iron sword, but not too expensive. Steel will do." How many times in Oblivion did you go into a spell store just to buy the certain effects that you wanted to make a different spell. Sure you got exactly what you wanted, but there was no "magic" in it anymore (as Todd put it). With this new combining of spells, you have to experiment with things. "Oh, I wish I could get my fire spell to radiate out like my shockwave. Wait a minute. *Combines fire with shockwave* Oh, hell yeah!" To me magic should be fairly unknown. If it isn't, it feels more like physics to me.

The other things this will prevent is a spell book of hundreds of slightly different spells.
