It still has a pistol grip on it, his thumb is just wrapped around the top of the stop, not too uncommon with thumbhole and skeletal stocks.

Might just be a clipping/animation issue.

Where at? The one where he is killing the mantis with the vault in the back. I saw that too.

Yeah, that part. That's definitely a Mantis along with the Plasma Pistol. You can see it all at 1:42 but you have to pause real quick.

Can you show me a rifle that you shot like that?

Guys I've been looking at the sniper in the video and comparing it to real sniper rifles...

Edit: Wait...I'm not quite done yet. There's some differences with the barrel. Let me keep looking...

Ok, there is a few possibilities of what that sniper rifle may be, you decide:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EDM_Arms_Windrunner
http://world.guns.ru/sniper/cheytac-0.jpg
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrett_M82

I think it's the M82.

well, here's a http://media.midwayusa.com/ProductImages/Large/334907.jpg stock, which has a pistol grip but the stock is connected to it for legal reasons. Not like the rifle pictured but it's something I mentioned.
Here's a skeletal http://www.mississippiautoarms.com/images/stock.jpgwhere it's possible to wrap the thumb as pictured. Not that I would ever do it, but like I said, the animation is probably messed up a little bit.

But anyway, I really don't get your point. There is a pistol grip. You can SEE it, right there. Where the character chooses to put his thumb is irrelevant. In fallout 3 when you shot the BB and repeater rifles, you wrapped your fingers around the gun in such a way the sights would be blocked. Does that mean it's impossible? No... just some messed up animation, which is common in these games.

BTW, I am not arguing that it is a Barret or based off of Barret designs- it's clearly something different, and I've looked at 20 or so different AM rifle designs and can't find a single match, or anything approaching what it might be. I believe it's something obsidian cooked up by themselves.

Doesn't look like any of those to me, least of all the M82. I think we need to stand back from this one and stop trying to classify it for a little while. Whatever this is, if it's not completely made up it's quite obscure.

My point is why is he holding the gun like that when there is a pistol grip (BTW I never said it wasn't there.) and you would hold it like...a pistol. The only rifles I know of that they hold like that are one made like this. http://world.guns.ru/sniper/sn10-e.htm

I see, that's a monte-carlo stock, not really a pistol grip, though it does have that pistol grippy structure to it. But your point is he's holding the rifle as if it had a monte carlo stock... which is rather strange, but by no means physically impossible. Like I said, chalk it up to a clipping/animation error. It doesn't bother me that much.

Yeah. I guess I am not a expert on guns, but I know how to hold them and I just found it strange.

That part where you see the Mantis has a opened vault right behind it. I really want to see what's in that vault now...

And the implication of that is also that Vault 21 isn't the only vault- no way is that Vault 21. Vault 21 is a casino that's still inhabited, not an overgrown ruin full of bugs.

Well, I wouldn't expect a city that hasn't been nuked and that has been patched up and cleaned by robots to look that dirty. I do wish the desert looks more desert-y. It'll get comparisons to RDR, and it's worse...

View is from high up (like pistol is being held too low).

I live in vegas, thats how the desert looks.

Fantastic trailer!

No Perlman (so far)... Is it possible that he is not going to be involved except with the core games? (meaning FO4, but not FO:NV)

*Or wishes not to be involved?

The game looks to be great ~and I pre-ordered the collector's edition it a while back.

I thought it looked like it had the body of an M14EBR and the barrel of a Barret.

Sure, but not in this one. So either they are holding back until later, or they are holding back until FO4 ~or they couldn't get him (which I doubt).

Yup. Maybe they should have not told us 11pm EST and just said "11PM all time zones"? Meh the E3 coverage wasn't that great corny skits and you can tell the hot super model memorized a script and probably isn't into gaming in the least bit. Although Star Wars Unelashed II looked pretty bad ass.

Its a pretty scary thought not have a fallout intro without Ron Pearlman.

What's this Petro Chico company on the billboard at 0:37? Is Poseidon Oil not the only major petrol chain for the West Coast/Southwest Region?

The anti-materiél rifle in the trailer looks like it's the French PGM Hecate II, which is the standard heavy sniper rifle of the French Army. How it got into Vegas is beyond me, but if you compare this picture http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/4/46/PGM_Hecate.jpg.JPG with the clip at 0:51, you can see the similarities in shape, including the muzzle brake at the end of the barrel. As for why he's holding it like that, with his thumb over the back of the stock, well, maybe he's just weird.

My only real complaint so far is the shot of the pistol being used to fight the snake-dog-things, well... It's obviously a semi-auto pistol, but the slide isn't moving when the weapon is being fired. Hopefully it's just because it's early on, and it'll be fixed in the final. Even the 10mm's slide went back when you fired in Fallout 3, though its slide was designed more like the Desert Eagle's, with the barrel fixed into place and not connected to/surrounded by the slide.
