E3 2010 - Fallout: New Vegas Trailer

Post » Fri Mar 26, 2010 5:27 am

The whole ironsights thing just makes me wonder if he was actually using the sights at all...

The camera wasn't zoomed up to the gun like the other sights had them, like the grenade launcher for example.

It's possible they've simply replaced the "hip fire" and "passive stance" animation from Fallout 3, which had you walking around with the pistol clutched to your side with a bent elbow, with a more natural stance based on a relaxed weaver/isosceles stance. Because of this the gun is centered in the screen even when "hip fired", similar to the http://revistagames.files.wordpress.com/2009/12/doom11.jpg way of displaying your gun.

Omgeez, I used to play that game when i was like 6! It was what got me into FPS, never could recall the name though, thank you sir.

This is my hope.

@EnduringProtectron: Check 1:36 for better looking ironsight.

I know, I saw it, that's why I mentioned that the sight picture for the pistol wasn't like the grenade launcher. Now that in and of itself doesn't mean anything. There is precedent for games to have proper iron sights for one weapon and then have them off for others, especially with a divide between pistols and rifles. But I hope this isn't the case and that pistols DO have proper iron sight pictures- when you're actually using them.
Actually, it's the M79 grenade launcher from real life, thanks for trying though

I know, it always bothers me when people say "this gun was taken from COD" because that's the first place they saw it. I used to like the Magpul Masada (before it was called the ACR). Now, it kinda bothers me a bit. It's a cool gun but COD kiddies raving about it all day is a turn off.

Without it try to shoot them and their "sense of humor"? I think not. Someone had to put them on it.

I agree. This is an enclave eyebot, sure, but I doubt the enclave is running it anymore For all we know one of the local radio stations could have found a bunker full of them and re-purposed them as mobile broadcast relays, spreading the love of good tunes across the wasteland. And then the cheeky courier takes potshots at it. Ungrateful sot.

Anyway, I hope this means there is some vestige of the enclave in the game. I don't want to see them as a major faction, but I DO want to find evidence of them having existed. (mostly in the form of their power armor)

Some other things I noticed: Laser rifle skin is similar to fallout 3, but slightly different, and looks like it has some mods on it. Plasma rifle is similar too, but seems again to be modified. However, we've been told from previews that the "plasma caster" of yore is back too. Now, the old plasma rifle wasn't a "plasma caster" by name, but considering that it was an industrial tool, plasma caster is a better description. So unless we're being lied to, both kinds of plasma rifle are in the game.

Additionally, I noticed a plasma pistol with a new skin. Blocky, almost resembling the Glock 86 PP but not exactly the same. So what am I getting at? I saw people being dismayed that the Laser rifle skin was the same. I'm betting that isn't the only Laser rifle. I wouldn't be surprised if we saw the old Laser rifle from 1/2 return as well!

Actually, I think it'd be pretty cool if the little droid was a symbol/reference to fallout 3 and the enclave, just as a little reference.

You forgot DOOM?

I... I can't...
I'm so sorry for you. I mean, I know you were six, but... to me DOOM is unforgettable.

At any rate I'm happy I could reunite you with an old childhood friend.

Was it the laser pistol or the laser rifle? In Fallout 3 they both looked kind of squarish. He is using 2 handed, though so yeah, you're probably right.

It was. Didn't you see the bumper sticker that said "My child is an honor student at Roosevelt Academy"? That was a little reference too. I think my favorite part of the whole thing was the scoped laser rifle. I'm definitely going to try to get one of those early on in the game. The game's looking great right now. I have no idea what people were worrying about because of Alpha Protocol.

It was definitely a pistol, but as a point of precision, the Plasma weapons were more cylindrical in Fallout 3, with further cylindrical protrusions, (coils, perhaps) extending off of them. You can see this design in the trailer where the courier is battling a TV bot.

AAAaaand...
I found a little tidbit that makes the eyebot trailer quite interesting.
I propose to you that this little eybot traveled all the way from the capital wasteland to the West Coast.

Why? look at the bumper sticker on it. "My Child is an Honor Student at Roosevelt Academy"

If you remember from Fallout 3, the Roosevelt Academy was a super mutant infested school with a robotic dean that scolded you for being out in the halls. So in order for it to have that sticker, either the sticker was put on in the east and the bot traveled west, or the sticker was brought by someone Aaaall the way from the east coast and then affixed to the eyebot by someone in the west.

To me it seems more likely that the bot single-mindedly flew to the west coast. I mean look how driven it is. Flying along the road merrily, not even letting anti materiel shots faze him.

The current theory bouncing around in my head is that the bot is a "good fight ambassador bot" sent by Three Dog to spread Galaxy News Radio's message to the West coast.

I'm hoping that was just a cool little thing for the trailer and it won't show up in the game (though I doubt it).

Hopefully they'll have a good reason story-wise as to why we'd want to nuke New Vegas.

Nah I don't think that was a nuke, probably just blew up a building or something. Maybe rival mob factions like new reno with a mission to blow up their another factions casino? That's my guess.

Yeah. That's definitely from the east coast all right, cute reference.

Well, I wonder what that Mushroom-tree place was, some sort of facility? And it had the return of the mantis, delightful!
