You'd be surprised how easy it is to cobble together a bunch of nonsense, unrelated facts, and "coincidences" to create an argument that sounds fairly convincing...until you actually try to prove anything. This is not a new tactic. It all sounds like compelling evidence until you realize that it's all been subtly tweaked to make it sound like compelling evidence, when in fact it isn't.

Chaka ZG, the Mayan calendar does not end in 2012. There we see the first instance of wide-spread ignorance. They did not run out of room on the rock or any other insane idea. They did not predict anything. Calendars don't predict anything but dates. That's why they're called calendars. The 13'th baktun ends onDecember 21st, 2012, and the 14th begins. Each baktun is made up of 394 years. This has happened many times before.

They're just keeping time over a long period of time. That's why it is called the "Long Count Calendar".

I see it less as a prophesy that the world will end in 2012 and more as a responsibility to ensure the world ends by 2012.

How does it matter, if the entire planet exploded tomorrow, nobody would give a [censored], because everyone would be dead. The Mayan calender doesn't end in 2012. That just marks the end of one of their long counts. Also note that it's a CIRCLE.

And Nostradamus predictions are no evidence of anything. He just makes vague things that are blown out of proportions. Anything can be blown out of proportions. Remember when the media was ranting and raving about how Swine Flu was going to be a global pandemic? So few people got it that they ended up throwing away most of the vaccines.

They said the world would end on January 1, 2000. They said the world would end on 6-6-06. They say that the world will end on 12-21-12. Then come 2013, they'll make up some other date.

So what else did the Mayans do except making a calendar? I can do that too, but nobody thinks I have the ability to see the future in the stars.

Oh by the way, here's some food for thought. Let's say you're a mayan, you're not just any mayan, you are an esteemed calendar maker! Now let's say some guy comes in to your calendar emporioum or whatever it is Mayans made calendars in and says "I want a calendar".

Seems simple enough, you are a calendar maker afterall, but really, think about this. If you were in this situation, how long would you bother making this calendar? The fact that they even bothered to make it last untill 2012 is so baffling that I can't even put it into words, why the hell would you make a calendar that lasts that long? What would be the point, surely there will be other calendar makers who can keep making them once you're dead?
I don't believe the mayans were so incredibly stupid that they thought themselves immortal, all the mayans dying every now and then would put a stop to that train of thought I would think.

So let's use common sense here (Just go with it, I know common sense is widely believed to be a mythical concept). The fact that a piece of parchment or paper or whatever you want to make your calendar out of has an end, suddenly that means the world will end on that date? If your answer is yes, then here's a question: Why? How is this piece of paper connected to the worlds existance in any way? How can the numbers you choose to write on a calendar decide when the world will end?

If your answer was no on the other hand, congratulations, you have won. If you can somehow answer the three questions above, then congratulations, you have either A: Made terrible arguments or simply jokes or B: You are delusional.

In short, any form of logical thought and common sense will tell you, that the 2012 theory is complete garbage.

This is exactly what my girlfriend's mother believes and she's given me a ton of stuff to read about it. I did read some of it. The problem is that this is all stuff that people made up and has no scientific backing behind it. There are some "physicists" that claim there is science behind it, but none of them have credentials that any real scientist would take seriously. It all sounds nice and everything, but I have no compelling reason to believe it.

This is one of the many theories out there that make me, ever so occasionally, look in the mirror, look at my head and go "Here's looking at you, reasonably sane brain!" Oh, sure, my life may not be as phenomenal as someone who believes we're going to suddenly evolve in 2012 even though "suddenly" and "evolve" are contradictory, or as someone who things the big bad government is giving them cancer because they know about da aliens in da base out in da desert, or as someone who believes the Illuminati are going to drive Planet X into the earth in 2012, but you know, at least the events of each day are relatively expected. I don't have to worry about finding hidden cameras in my cereal. Nope, I just realize they're marshmallows. I don't have to obsess about whether or not waking up before my alarm means I have ESP. I don't have to freak out whenever I see a guy with sunglasses on and worry that "THEY'RE WATCHING ME!" Yep, I love being sane.

Hate to break it to you, but species don't have "cycles" where they jump along on "evolutionary levels," that result in sudden changes to their forms. Evolution is one of the slowest processes that takes place in biology. Evolution is little more than the traits that made one animal in a species have a better chance to breed over others getting passed onto the next generation, with these traits accumulating over countless generations until the difference is notable enough that the current generation can be considered distinct from its ancient ancestors. Humanity isn't going to suddenly develop some telepathic hive mind or whatever, what humans are going to do is keep on existing. The only thing that occurs at a decent rate is human cultural evolution, the evolution of human knowledge and society. Our collective knowledge and our society changes and improves incredibly fast, but our genetics are changing at the same old, slow rate. Make no mistake, evolution is so incredibly damn slow, we wouldn't see visible changes in ten human lifetimes.
