That is what I said. Nothing Never happens is a double negative, so something does happen. Since the beginning of time, something has always happened.

I find the notion that ancient cultures who looked up at the stars for ungodly amounts of time were able to master astronomy to such a massive degree that they could predict our doomsday thousands of years before any reputable modern scientist could to be... very reasonable! Now if you'll excuse me I have to go back to banging my head against the wall to get rid of the government planted nanobots in my brain. :)

Hey, stop trying to remove the nanobot infestation or you will be terminated under the Nanobot enslavement act.

Why does this mayan stuff keep popping up? The forum has shown again again that almost no one here buys it, so why does it survive instead of burning into oblivion?

I heard from someone at work that the world was going to end in 2011 due to taxes. I think she got it from a chain spam email

How was that supposed to work? The sun can't pay its bills and gets turned off?

The mayans predicted that 2012 was the end of the world. Did they? I had learned that 2012 was the end of THEIR CALENDAR.

Many people said that the year 2000 was the end because so many computers were used to 19-- for so long, that if they went to 2--- they would all fail and the world's technology would destroy us and it would be the apocolypse. I'm still alive.

Back to the Future Part II said that by 2015 we would have hoverboards, auto-fitting and auto-drying clothes and shoes. They also said that we'd have hover-craft auto conversion. I have yet to see anything lke that (albeit hoverboards...)

And I've played a video game for the NES that said that in the year 2000 we were fighting in space, yeah right.

Yep. The sun is also being charged with tax evasion. Our future is not looking so bright.

Mega Man was also supposed to have been built by now.

1. We all most certainly will die (eventually).

Not me, I plan to live forever or die trying.

Weren't the Mayans gone by the time the Spanish arrived? I thought the Aztecs were the ones in control of Mexico by the time Cortes arrived, with the Mayans gone years and years before.

I think the IRS repossesses it and causes the earth to be engulfed in flames while in the process.

The whole 2012 thing is rather amusing as some uninformed people are under the belief that the end of the 13th b'ak'tun marked the end of the Mayan long count calender, except that it's by no means the end of the calender (the long count calender operates in base 20), nor is there any prediction of anything cataclysmic according to various Mayan scholars. Of course, we can still all party like it's 13.0.0.0.0

The only risk factors to me are two things. A coincidence that could happen any time, which makes 2012 not special. Or panic about 2012 wiping out everyone, and everything. The most dangerous thing about 2012 is people panicking about it. I'm not sure how well I'd do. These doors aren't made of metal, I don't have any guns, and Andre the Giant could fit through my windows. On the upside I don't live on the bottom floor, the bottom floor dwellers would probably be the first to go if widespread panic happened. I also live in a connected building which gives me a distraction advantage, but also puts me closer to the action if people panic.

I've wanted to become a hermit simply because I'm always scared of an outbreak of hysteria, living near other humans makes me scared. Oh well... I hope when people start violently panicking in 2012 they stay away from my property.

Incorrect. I hail from Pennsylvania (born and raised in West Philadelphia, actually), I just live in California.

So while I live in California, I am not from California.

Yeah, no. The problem with Y2k was that a lot of computer systems calculated dates with only two numbers. So 1990 would be 90 in the computer system. The concern was that the rollover from 99 to 00 would trigger unwanted behavior or otherwise damage system functionality. You can make the argument that the y2k problem was overblown, but there was still the potential for loss of system function and many companies altered their systems to avoid the potential problems of the rollover.

If I remember correctly, a newscrew interviewed a bunch of Mayans earlier in the year about the 2012 doomsday theories. They replied that they were far more worried about an impending drought, stopping them from having a good harvest and causing them to starve to death this year, than a bunch of theories suggesting the world is going to end in 2012.

Exactly. I myself find that I am more worried about why your avatar is not saved to my hard drive yet.

Well Hollywood made a film about it and History Channel did a show about it as well. So clearlyhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9VWC8eB9ic&feature=related?

In any case, if you want to survive through it. Follow John Cussack. He's the man of the day when it'll come.

You are describing a zombie outbreak... or a shortage of H1N1 vaccines... which is pretty much a zombie outbreak.
