.223 and 5.56?

Post » Wed Dec 23, 2009 12:17 pm

Why the redundancy? .223 is the same thing as 5.56, just in the Army we called it 5.56 and when I got out all my friends called it 223. I guess it's not really something to get all bent-up about, just odd is all.

He probably read about That Gun and assumed that it ACTUALLY uses the .223.

.223 Remington has slightly different case dimensions from 5.56x45mm NATO and cannot handle the higher SAAMI pressures of 5.56x45mm NATO loadings. However, both will properly headspace in and fire from a weapon chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO.

.308 Winchester and 7.62x51mm NATO have a similar relationship.

Wow, someone did their homework...so why is the word "clips" used in place of "magazines"? Is there a Garand or SKS in the game? ;)

I was just about to say the same thing about the relenship bewteen 5.56 and .223 and .308 and 7.62 but not this time.

I would guess, that "clips" is a very US thing, where as Magazines or Mags is more British.

Im ex forces (British Army) and think of magazines as Mags, where as when in the past I have been on exercise with the US Forces they would refer to them as clips?

Clip and magazine are interchangeable in the US, but they probably used clips to avoid confusion with skill magazines.
