2nd patch

Post » Wed May 12, 2010 1:36 am

Seems to have fixed the in menu mouse acceleration. Also the saves appear to be behaving correctly now. However still getting fps drops, back to the dll fix.

Edit: Also got CTD within first 2 min without dll fix implemented.

For clarification, the menu mouse acceleration issue is how when you're over a menu, your mouse moves at a completely different speed than when you're in game, right?

Make sure you exit Steam completely, and end the process, and then boot it back up. It'll DL the patch automatically.

The question here is, will it fix your game so that your PREVIOUS saves are seen and usable again, or does it just rely you to load an older save and then all future saves seem to work?

We are also pleased to say that we have just released a second fix for PC users to address the autosave and quicksave issues that some people were encountering. That particular issue was never seen prior to release and it was extremely difficult to reproduce reliably, even after the game had launched. In order to fix this problem we have had to disable Steam Cloud functionality. It has been turned off, and we won't turn it back on until we're absolutely sure it will not cause any more problems. Please restart your Steam client to make sure you get the update.

Seems like this 2nd patch has made it so I can only get up to 60 FPS. I have Vsync off in CCC and for the game.
I could get up to 120 before..

How does that happen? O.o

I'm not sure I understand why you seem so concerned that 60 fps isn't enough, lots of people playing this game would be thrilled at that prospect.It's not like 60 fps is going to turn your game into a slideshow :nope:

Seems to have fixed the in menu mouse acceleration.

Not on my end. In fact, it actually made it to where the fix I had implemented before does not even work anymore. And removing it doesn't change it.

God I hate the mouse acceleration. :banghead:

I know I can play the game with those frame rates, but it's just.. I have Vsync off, and it's only giving me at most 60. I want to know why.

I'm only using the .dll fix now, since the patch changed the .ini back to normal.

Then perhaps it was steam cloud that was preventing my mouse acceleration fix to not work? I'm leaning towards that because once i checked the fallout_default.ini, the fixes that i applied for mouse acceleration were still there. It looks like steam cloud is the root of all evil. Well the root of some evil i guess.

Everything worked fine for me with everything graphic related turned off except for bloom, high rez textures and high resolution. Now the game crashes every 5 minutes or so. Don't know what the patch did but it screwed up the game big time.

Now waiting on another patch to fix that.

It's not just the mouse acceleration removal that the game is ignoring, the game is now not recognizing ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated inserted into the sArchiveList INI entry either.

Introducing bugs with patches. :rolleyes:

I have completely disabled Steam Cloud, and it still persists. I have copied wholesale the FalloutPrefs into the steam cloud folder, and it still persists.

Breaking the sArchiveList loading greatly hamstrings the mod community, and forces us to rely on the balky and unreliable ArchiveInvalidation.txt. Sticking us with the mouse acceleration "feature" bugs us. We want a mouse speed between "slow and surly" and "shoots all the way across the screen". Mouse acceleration precludes that. Mouse acceleration does not work. Get rid of it.

Indeed. Because now that I got everything fixed, a patch comes along to screw things up. I already turned off Steam Cloud before it, so this patch was absolutely unnecessary for me.

I guess I'm off to find a way to lessen the mouse acceleration on my end, because as I said, the .ini fix I used before does not work anymore.

It svcks that there's no way to revert back to a previous patch using Steam. I would so do that right now.

What's especially annoying?

I had specifically remembered deactivating auto updates. And what do I discover? It's reactivated.

Indeed it does, and so far, I'm not finding a way around it. I guess we're just going to have to live with it until the next patch either fixes it, or allows us to do the .ini fix again. :meh:

This is strange though. Why would the game have trouble reading the functions off of the .ini? It just doesn't make sense... :huh:

Had game running prefectly, and then bam, while I was away steam creeps in and changed 'something'. It ignores me when I set it to "Do not automatically update this game." :brokencomputer:

I checked in my ini files and all my 'removing mouse acceleration' additions to Controls section are there.
Vsync pre this last patch gave me mouse lag in menus, now its forcing mouse accel for some reason.

I looked in my .ini files and found that setting iPresentInterval=1 to iPresentInterval=0 will get rid of the vsync. It forces it off. More info at http://www.tweakguides.com/Fallout3_5.html

You can find the different .ini files here if your running Windows 7. Sorry not sure for XP.

\Documents\My Games\FalloutNV\ fallout.ini falloutprefs.ini
\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\ fallout_default.ini
\Program Files (x86)\Steam\userdata\(somenumber)\(another number)\remote\ falloutprefs.ini

Oh btw if you have problems saving it, the file is probably set to read only.
And take care if you root around in there, saving a backup first is a very good idea.

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

2nd patch forced acceleration for me too. For what it's worth, I was able to turn Mouse Acceleration off again by adding the lines back to the default .ini:

fForegroundMouseAccelBase=0
fForegroundMouseAccelTop=0
fForegroundMouseBase=0
fForegroundMouseMult=0

to:

\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout new vegas\ fallout_default.ini

Thanks Retserof!!! I had missed that. :facepalm:

Hmm...I'm not at home, so I can't look. Is it possible that something they've done in the process of disabling the Steamcloud stuff has cause these files to be created in a different location?

Looks like I'm disabling my internet connection before I start Steam tonight...or maybe just firewall-block Steam. :P

Firstly, let me just state that this is an incredibly frustrating experience. Secondly, I've been biting my tongue since I got the game a few days ago. This situation is unacceptable and now with the 2nd patch, things have gotten... WORSE.

- Previously, my crash to desktops were random. I could play perhaps anywhere to 10 minutes to 45 minutes before the game closed without any feedback. Now, in the last half hour, I've been unable to get past 5 minutes.
- The saves seem to be stable, my saves have remained there.
- VATS is completely and utterly broken. Firstly, it lags HORRIBLY (where it didn't do it before) and I cannot get any % of hit success. Including a shotgun, point blank to someone's face. Here's a printscreen : http://img97.imageshack.us/f/vats0percent.jpg/

To me this was a step forward, then 3 steps back. The situation is WORSE than before.
