So far so good.... After getting to level 72 with my first player, I got so sick and tired of all the stupid settlement radiant quests so I thought I'd try something different. I love building settlements but I missed the play that was similar to FO3.


I started a new play. So far, I am level 26 while Preston and the short-bus crew are still holed up in the museum waiting for me to save them. As far as settlements, I have Sanctuary, red rocket, hangmans alley and taffington (?) boathouse. I sided with the RR this time and just about freaked when they sent me to clear taffington but all is good. It's Great! No settlers, no drama, no whining! I plan on taking the factions as far as I can THEN......after I finish, I may let Preston and his peeps free. I still 'find' settlements but I do not go in or talk to anyone. So far I have had 1 settler show up at sanctuary, standing in front of that yellow house, where they always do when their significant other is having an affair with a raider or mutant. I saw him and stopped....shook my head, cursing under my breath, equipped my spray-n-pray and sprayed him across the lawn. NO...I am NOT helping you! This is a freaking apocalypse. Survival is key. STAY OFF MY LAWN....PUNK!


I have tons to do and it is so much more fun right now. I'll do the settlements AFTER I explore everything, sip a few beers from my drinking buddy.....sigh...life is good once again.

Interesting. I'm on my second play through as well with a similar attitude. Although to be fair last time I didn't do a whole lot with settlements.

This time I did let Preston and company come to Sanctuary, but I haven't done any other quests for Preston at all. He gave me the first one but I've just ignored it. So far the only real downside is that Preston isn't available as a companion and his perk is pretty good.

My next play through I'm planning on doing a high charisma character and really focus on building up settlements. That's a big part of why I haven't wanted to do it this time.

I told Preson "No, I won't help you." So all the dorks are at Sanctuary, but there has been no further progression of the MM storyline. No kidnappings, no requests for aid, nada.

i was going to leave him in there indefinitely, but you can't get the grognak from vault 81 til you let him out.
