Is HD 3000 good enough?

Post » Thu Jan 30, 2014 7:09 am

I am very divided over if i should get ESO for my Mac/PC or for my PS4. Im trying to run pros and cons in my head about what is the better choice. I figure for PC there will be more people so i am slightly leaning towards that. The only concern I have is that my graphic card of my PC and Mac is an HD 3000 which is under the minimum requirements, but the rest of my specs match or exceed the recommended specs. Anyone idea if an HD 3000 graphic card will be good enough, or should i just get it for the PS4? Last thing i want is to preorder the CE for my Mac/PC and end up buying the game all over again for PS4 because i wasn't able to play it. Thanks.

No, you should definitely get a dedicated graphics card. Get a Radeon HD 6870 or 7870. They're pretty cheap and very good cards for running ESO.

IMHO, PC is better in the long run -- less time for patches to come live, add-ons, etc Also, at some point, one can always just update one's graphics card.

CPU based graphics will not run a modern 3D game well, or at all. Best to use a dedicated graphics card.

Good news, you can get a card for around $200 or less that will spank any modern game out there.

Or, if you want to go Nvidia, get a GTX 650 Ti or GTX 660.

It might not necessarily be pretty or high quality, but you probably (I am totally speculating here) could use an Intel HD 3000 on the game. That's what my tiny little 13" MacBook Pro runs with, and if I drop the graphics quality and a few other things down on some of the more intensive games/programs, it still runs fairly well, even on games where they say the card isn't at the specifications.

Note that I've not tested this with ESO, since I didn't wait to spend forever and a day downloading such a big game, so I just ignored the invite email.

Is this a laptop? If so, then that easy "just buy a low cost dGPU" doesn't apply to you. Now will the HD 3000 run it? I'm sure it will, perhaps not very well and at extremely low settings, but it will run.

The HD 3000 isn't even a graphics card at all. Your computers' CPUs are rendering all the video, which will hurt performance because the CPU also needs to process other game data as well.

Virtually any graphics card you buy will be an improvement.

If you're looking for decent graphics, you're looking at shelling out $100+ for a card. But if it's a laptop, you're SOL. If you're tight on cash, and since you already have a PS4, I recommend just waiting for the console release.

Should be able to run it on low settings. My laptop with an HD 3000 is able to run most modern MMOs, including Guild Wars 2.

But if you want a good experience, you should get a dedicated card.

If anyone tried the ESO beta with the Intel HD 3000 and know it runs ok, they aren't allowed to say anything because of the beta NDA. However, looking at benchmarks the Intel HD 3000 give a playable framerate for many modern games at a low resolution and low settings, it might be the case with the ESO too. If you really want to play on the computer.

It's not something I would recommend though, the graphics in the PS4 is a lot more powerful than the Intel HD 3000 and will most likely give a better game experience.

Ya if upgrading isn't an option then PS4 is probably the way to go. Even if the HD 3000 can run ESO, it wouldn't be anything like the PS4's graphics.
