360 vs PC (in game i mean)

Post » Mon Mar 08, 2010 7:58 am

Just a quick question or idea. If you all remember that game 'shadow run' also i think 'time shift'? Had a mode where 360 players could play in a game with PC players! i never found out if it worked out or not because when i owned shadow run i had no internet ?_? worst game ever if you have no internet lol

Anyway could this happen with BRINK do you think? or is it happenin with BRINK? i dont think its possible for this to happen with ps3 as well is it? but 360 n PC pretty much the same thing? could be quite cool but then i guess it doesnt make that much of a difference in game play?

Will not happen (confirmed), would be a horrible experience for 360 players.

indeed confirmed it won't be in.
it's been tested in other games and pc-gamers have an easy task of taking out people using controllers so...

The only cross system online game I've seen is final fantasy 11, which was on the 360, pc, and ps2 awhile back.

But yeah a shooter definitely wouldn't be cross platform due to mouse+keyboard vs. controller

Like the 300.000th time this question pops up.
Still a no. Mouse/Keyboard vs. controller is not fair and no fun for pc gamers (no challenge) Don't want to start a console war however.

i don't see how that would start a console war, it's not as if we're saying pc is better or anything, just saying a mouse has better accuracy.
i could be wrong, but aren't there controllers that come with a mouse? i always thought that was mean, just get one of those and suddenly your a pro in whatever console fps you play...

Which essentially means the PC is better. ;)

well lets not start a war :P i didnt want to make one, just wondered about it, i never got to play against a PC player on my console, always wanted to...i see myself as better than the average console gamer...but not calling myself a pro or anything. I stick to console gaming mainly for the comfort of the pad and my desk isnt exactly great for pc gaming :P too close to the screen!

That's the issue. Basicly, an average PC gamer can easily beat a console-pro if it goes PC vs console, because the PC gamer can and will react and aim much faster and accurate.

Yes, there are controllers made for the consoles that http://www.amazon.com/PS3-FragFX-Controller-Mouse-Playstation-2/dp/B001V6WZQ4, But there's are 3rd party, so you cant really blame Sony. As long as a controller gives the proper output, the console cant tell the difference.

Slightly related: I Just found this the other day when looking for pistols, http://home.novint.com/products/pistol_grips.php. On sale right now for $160 direct from Novint. I wish I could afford it, looks awesome. Can finally get that light gun feel from a game, without it being on rails.

Mouse > two anolog sticks

The mouse is much more precise, as you can look exactly where you want as quick as you want. But alas! until they make track pads/ a mouse compatible with console games, we will suffer a fate worse then death itself.

I don't know about Xbox, but like my first link in my last post shows, they already exist for PS3

And that worse fate than death is, of course, multiple deaths.

meh i like to think with my sensitivity up to the point where i like it on console, would at least give me a slight chance with PC users but i guess the 'point click' will always be faster than 'direction, trigger' lol

curious though, when they did those few games that mixed console n PC, did PC users have an advantage if their PC was well built, like faster loading times and running smoother?

An average player on a computer was found to be better than a pro on a console, on any computer that could run the game without issues.

Yeah, there's no plans for this. The playing styles of console and PC (mouse + keyboard vs. controller) would probably end up leading to some lopsided victories for PC players.

Didn't see that link...was busy looking at the gun controller.

I might look into seeing if they have a mouse for the Xbox. My computer can't handle any graphics, I always have to crank it down and even then gameplay is jumpy.

With a mouse on my Xbox, I could have the power of the Xbox and the precision of a computer. Muahahhahaahah.

I can one-up you and offer a http://www.amazon.com/Xfps-360-Keyboard-Mouse-Adapter-Xbox/dp/B0010ZH3V8, but its a bit pricey, $85 on amazon, even more other places.

If only mouse was a standard accessory for consoles, if would avoid terrible console ports and PC ports of some games, and cross-play. But I think console is really like something that is in your living room with your TV, and that you play while sitting in the couch or something. So a mouse would be hard to fit. Maybe some kind of trackball included in a wireless keyboard-like set of buttons that you put on your lap... After all, if we are all that fast and precise with the mouse, it's because we are used to it from long time ago, too.

But if they allow games like FPS to be compatible with a mouse on Xbox for instance, then it would mean that players having a mouse would blast others playing with the pad. And all the effort to avoid PC vs Consoles because mouse > pad would be in vain... it's quite the deadlock there !.

While aiming is better with a mouse you don't ever hear about movement being better on a controller. Obviously it's not as important but a joystick in terms of movement is far better than a key.

i don't have that many trouble moving around in fps's, i mean, perhaps in racegames but even then i prefer the controlled tapping of keys over the sticks wich you need to put in center before you stop turning.
movement is all about preference, but the aiming... mouse is clearly best choice there

Gaming pads for PCs are starting to have anolog sticks added, but have very little support in games right now. If that becomes common, you would have the best of both. I think that the Novint Falcon would be better than either, though. They named it the Falcon because mice is their natural prey. Too bad for the price tag, maybe if I wait a few more years...

I agree but it depends on the game's needs. The joystick's advantage is that it can be progressive. Can be useful in game where your movement speed have to be controlled more precisely, like a action-platform game (a la Tomb raider or Assassin's creed for example).

For a FPS ? Im not sure, unless if it's a RPG or infiltration game with FPS pov. Precise aiming of the mouse is more important for me than being able to have a smooth transition between run, walk fast, walk...

Now imagine a new peripheral that could combine the 2 ?

@Shawodcat : are you sure they are just beginning ? I have had these bunch of thrustmaster pads for some time now, for my PC, and they have the dual anolog sticks, along with pad and the whole bunch of buttons, enough to provide for xbox ports and all... But it's true that appart from multi platform games and ports, there aren't many games that exploit the pad to the max, I suppose. Still, more than console games using mouse and keyboard. Each have their standards :)
