Memory bloating? If you mean save bloating, that's a big issue on all platforms.
The problem is that when cell resets, all enemies, loot, etc. should renew and the old ones be cleaned. However items dropped by slain enemies do not for some reason cleaned away and they remain there permanently. Because all items are recorded into the save, this will cause the save to bloat.
This a particulary big issue on consoles due to weak hardware and no means to fix it. On PC the issue is less problematic due to better hardware and one can use the unofficial patch fix the issue (among bazillion others). Deleting older saves won't help, once the save is bloated, it's pretty much toast. On consoles one has to "play janitor" in order prevent bloating, meaning after every battle clean up items dropped by enemies and deposit them on the corpses.
It doesn't matter where the save is located. If the save gets bloated, it will cause performance problems regardless of its location.
Bloat is still Bloat, but if you use an external hard- drive or usb, then you have a larger memory to hold the bloat. So it will help.
As Kirottu mentioned clean up after battles when possible. Ash piles are an issue also. One of the things I did was keep my Necomancer RP to a shorter playthrough, also any where I used Serana a lot. Pick up all those swords, daggers and shields after battles. Try to put any clutter that you move into a container... like your Jorrvskr mess, pick it up ( before leaving the cell) and place it in one of the containers.
I used the external 250 gb hard-drive, but the saves would still get bloated after awhile and generally start causing issues.... but I could get 500 to 800 hr's with one character. Depending... each play through is different.
You can't entirely fix save bloat on consoles, but you can fight it. I used to have my character pick up fallen weapons, place them inside dead bodies (ew ) and then leave them there. When the enemy gets cleaned away during respawn, so does the weapon.
You must place these weapons IN the dead body, not on it.
