Too bad though, like playin on the 360 way better than on PC, I just end up using a freakin' character editor to max Hp becuse "I can", I don't "have to" but it's hard to resist when you get torn apart by 5 Deathclaws and constant Enclave Scouts every other encounter.

FO 1 and 2 are way too sophisticated for consoles. :hehe:

But seriously, I doubt they would ever be ported to console. And not just because I prefer PC over anything else.

I never understood this thing about console controls being better. Personally I think a mouse and a keyboard are the most fluid and precise for any kind of games short of racing and fighting. But anyway you can buy a 360 USB joystick cheap and play it perfectly on the PC.

If your PC is good enough to post on this forum, chances are it's good enough to run Fallout 1 and 2.

Er... No. Interplay is alive... Just, and who knows for how much longer.

Interplay can't make any changes to FO1/2 without Bethesda's approval

Well, yeah.
I can run both perfectly fine but I don't like playin on a computer.
I'm the kind of person that just can't resist using cheats or editors if they're aviable.
Everytime I try to play a game it ends up with me using the editors and cheats "just once or twice" but it escalades into making me into a god and then the game becomes boring.
I'd rather play on the 360 were I don't have the choice in using an editor.

And when playin 3 hours without saving then an enclave kills you with a 100+ critical hit, it kinda makes you snap.

Couple of examples.
Age Of Empires - E=MC2Trooper Bazooka man kills everythinhg, game boring.
Half-life - All weapons, instakillin everything, game boring.
GTA San Andreas - All weapons (set 1) kill kill kill health cheat, kill kill, game boring.
At 360, using cheats turns off achievments. I don't use cheats, ever.

as hard as it may be to believe, Fallout and Fallout 2 hail from a time when there was in fact a very clear distinction between PC games and console games - both in their tone and in their gameplay. unless you want to control a mouse cursor with your dpad or anolog sticks (and think of how well that worked for stuff like SimCity 2000 and Clock Tower!), there's really no way they could be ported to consoles while retaining some semblance of playability.

there's no GECK for Fallout, and i'm fairly sure there's no cheat codes either. there IS FOnline, though, which is pretty fun if you don't mind russians.

If you have the willpower to play 360 games without cheats then you have the willpower to play PC games without cheats. You yourself have pointed out that cheating in PC games makes them boring, and having a good time is technically an achievement even if it doesn't appear on some pointless gamer card. Fallout 1/2 are never going to be ported to consoles, so if you want to play them you'll have to start trying to play PC games without cheating.

Well I'm one of those people who are obsessed with achievements so I never cheat on 360, ever.
And also i don't fancy playin' on PC, I don't like keyboards or mouse controls. Idunno why.
And I don't have the willpower to leave editors alone. As I said, I play fine on fallout until some creature kills me with a 100+ critical and I haven't saved for awhile.
That makes me snap, that makes me wanna "change" my character a little.

I wasn't thinkin' about an official release for them on 360.
Just some way to make it play on the Xbox.

I know I know, it's my own fault for not leavin' them(Character Editors) alone but I just asked if there was any way to make it play on 360.
I got my answer.
Guess I'll have to build up some willpower.

Fallout 1 and 2 should work on any PC, even the most inexpensive netbook.

No thanks, If they created them for Consoles then the game would loose many of its Great RPG aspects. And thats what made the game it is today.

Actually, I believe the canceled PS1 game was just going to be a spin-off like Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel, not a port.

Yeah. I imagine it would be fairly difficult to port these games to modern consoles, and given how little they'd be able to charge for these games it probably wouldn't be worth it. Making them available to purchase online (like they have) is far more economical - and as you point out almost everyone with a PC today can meet the game's hardware requirements.

Interplay can't make any changes to FO1/2 without Bethesda's approval

Yeah, although Interplay remains the publisher of these games so if they were re-released it would be Interplay's decision.

You know you can buy a 360 controller for the PC right?

I don't see how since it would stay the same except you'd be using a controller. The only other thing they might do is update the graphics.

Anyway it's kind of sad that interplay can't do this since it would make them some money which they desperately need at this point.

I could see them upping the resolution and updating the interface art because of that, but trying to replace the in-game art would be quite the undertaking.

I'm sure if Interplay wanted to do this they could get it OKed by Bethesda - however I don't think it would be an economical move on their part. Porting an old game to a console is not an easy task, particularly if no one is around who worked on the original engine. The amount they'd make from such an endeavor probably wouldn't net them much actual profit, whereas making these games available online (as they have) for computers took minimal effort on their part compared to the amount they likely get. In the end they may not get all that much from this either, but its more than they would porting it.
