3rd Person Experience

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 8:46 am

Just wondered what other people thought could be changed or added to make the third person mode better and easier to use.

Please, no calling for 3rd person to be removed, constructive criticism only.

I think that an improvement in the movement animations would improve the appeal of playing 3rd person greatly - no more sliding across terrain.
I only play 3rd person in RPGs, unless there is no other option, or it becomes impractical (tight corridors, and such).

Better camera, animations, and the removal of 'slip-sliding' around. Basically... study the Witcher, and mimic it in TES.
Witcher had a fantastic camera setup that supported First Person, over shoulder third person AND point and click high ISO 3rd person.
Copy the Witcher would be my ideal. Now my ideal may not be appropriate for the TES series, and so I would never demand it, but I just greatly prefer point & click in RPG's

I like first-person views, but I absolutely loathe first-person shooters and don't think attributing first-person view to only them is quite fair. I think it's sad that people associate "first-person" with "first-person shooter" and that the industry, for most part, limits first-person to shooters. I will never turn down what I consider to be the more immersive first-person view in an RPG that will allow it. The only time I use a third-person view when not forced to is when I want to look at my character, but I don't use utilize it for any purpose other than just to get a view of my character, as I'll switch right back to first-person after I've obtained that view. Improving on the third-person view seems like a logical step and I wouldn't mind it, but it's not something I'm pushing for.

I doubt I'll be in 3rd person view the whole game but at least have it similar to Fallout 3 where if you held the button you could rotate the camera angle so that you could get a closeup shot of the armor/outfit and the face.

You could do that in Oblivion... :whistling:

it's sad that people associate "first-person" with "first-person shooter"

I'm guessing that that will change over time. Judging by what I read on these forums most people seem to see Elder Scrolls games as being 1st-person games. So I think that the more popular and mainstream Elder Scrolls become, the more people will begin to realize that RPGs don't necessarily have to be thought of as 3rd-person games anymore.

As for me, as long as the option to play in 3rd-person doesn't go away, I'm happy.

The problem with 3rd person was that everything you wore made you look short and fat, and not very heroic.

The gameinformer article said they much imroved the 3rd person expirience. But I would like and option for over-the-shoulder view with bows.

I'd like to see them make the game control similar to Demon's Souls in third-person.

I am a big fan of 3rd person, in oblivion mostly I use 3rd person for exploring then switch to 1st person for battles.

I just read that game informer article as well and it was said that playing 3rd person should be just as viable as 1st person.

Improving the aim of bows/spells in 3rd person is the biggest issue I can think of. I couldn't hit the broad side of a barn in oblivion's 3rd person.
