3rd Person Players Unite!

Post » Sat Feb 12, 2011 2:05 pm

I think I heard somewhere that there has been a development focus on first person. This scares me because I truly truly want to play as much as possible in 3rd person. I want to see the whole character attack animations. I want to be able to sneak properly, (no he can't see me because I can't see him). And I made the face/skin/hair and equipped the armor on my character I want to see them!!!

What Im saying is Im hoping 3rd person wont be shortchanged WHOS WITH ME

I prefer 1st person. Though if 3rd person was improved over what was in OB I wouldn't mind trying it. Was just too much of a hassle to fight or pretty much do anything other than walk/run around.

I never understood people wanting all these customization options and then just playing in 1st person.

I dislike first person, A LOT and always have. It's why I haven't played an FPS since Golden Eye on the N64. So yeah, 3rd person for me all the way unless I'm doing magic or firing a bow. But thankfully the slight "magnetism" feature should definitely help those of us out who wish to play in 3rd person.

From what I understand, they have always focused on firstperson perspective, but always allowed for Third Person. The same is said to be true for Skyrim, but they also are supposed to have improved on the Third Person models. I prefer third person for vanity and interactive purposes, though I toggle to first for targeting, and sometimes for closer inspection of things.

3rd person for exploring, walking around cities, conversations, generally moving around

1st person only for combat, especially with ranged

I mainly chose 1st person because it's more absorbing, but also because 3rd person hasn't really been handled well in previous games. If it has been overhauled, I might it a try, as I do like to watch my character in 3rd person as I'm exploring (just not while fighting, interacting with objects, talking etc.)

I'm with you; third-person for everything but scenic screenshooting.

First-person will be the focus, but it was also stated that an effort's been made to improve third-person perspective -- and character art and animation looks wonderful so far -- so I'm not worried.

I can see why people prefer either or but I gotta disagree with the OP's point on "proper sneaking". I play in 1st person, and I often get detected by people I cannot see, either because I was making too much noise or I merely was looking the wrong way. How is being able to stand next to a corner and just rotate the camera to see around it more proper? In fact, the way I see it, that isn't even fair, being able to see what your character realistically could not. But we will get 3rd person and we will not get a system for peeking around corners besides barely inching our head out so it's all gravy.

I get the 3rd person thing, they want to see their character. I however want to see through their eyes. Sure I will walk around a town in 3rd person but as soon as the combat starts or I need to sneak I go into 1st person. It is just more realistic.

i prefer 1st person because LIFE is 1st person

LIFE is also REAL.

Not to mention the fact that I can look down at any time in life and see my legs, feet, arms, chest, etc.

TES is more of what you would call Zero-Person.

No need to worry about playing in third person, You will still be able to use it. IIRC I reads somewhere that third person perspective has been improved...I am hoping that doesn't mean that they made it Fallout style, because that drove me insane when I first started playing, Some time later I fired up the GECK and made it more to my liking (Oblivion style. Over the shoulder cam really bites.)

Personally I use both first and third person. When playing Oblivion I stayed mostly in Third person, never once had a problem fighting using that style. While playing Fallout, I used both equally. I found itdifficult impossible to fight in third person perspective in Fallout despite the Over the shoulder camera.

I way prefer to play in 3 rd person, i find it much more enjoyable than first. Though I do recall Bethesda saying they were going to make 3rd person pretty good as well.

1st Person. I just like it better. In 3rd person, the character looks like he's floating over the world.

I tend to prefer Morrowind in first person and Oblivion in third person. One of the main reasons I like third person in Oblivion is because otherwise I'd have huge problems with peripheral vision and the like, which seems to be more important in Oblivion, apparently. I don't know if it's a different play style due to different characters, or due to actual differences in the games themselves, but that's how it is. In Morrowind I don't seem to have that problem so much so I can go with the more immersive first-person.

i like third person games more than first person games, but for the elder scrolls i usually have to go with first person just because of things like picking stuff up. and i'm assuming that talking will be easier in first person also. but if they really have improved third person, i will probably to combat and travel in that perspective.

I think I tried 3rd person in OB and when sneaking or going up stairs or something it seemed the camera shaked way too much about made me motion sick. Unless I am thinking of something else or another game. If 3rd person combat was not problematic like in OB and the camera was smooth no matter how you moved or terrain I could see giving it a shot.

TES games have always been first person focused. They have mentioned serveral times that they are making improvements to the third person view.

The game is focused on first person as it always has. That being said, the team has put a huge emphasis on making it look great in 3rd person. For those of you that played Oblivion in 3rd person, I can't imagine you not being pleased with the improvements that have been made.

In case you missed it, here's what Todd discussed in a recent IGN interview

IGN: Regarding the first and third-person views, are both included in Skyrim? If so, are both being designed as equally viable ways to play?

Todd Howard: Yes, we have both. 3rd person, with the new animation system, is better than ever, and people really seem to enjoy playing in it, seeing their character. But it's primarily designed as a first person game. I see the 3rd person as an extra, and certain things like picking up objects, talking to people, whatever, are always harder in 3rd person. Some people on the team think the combat is better in 3rd person because they can see their surroundings better. Personally, I usually play 1st person unless I'm just running through the wilderness and want a different view.

I always play in 1st person, because I go for ultra-immersion when playing these kinds of high detail games. Unfortunately, in real life I do not see myself from a 3rd person perpective, so that kinda breaks immersion.

I play mostly in 1st person because it gives me the immersion I want. I sometimes play in 3rd person to get a better view of what's around me or for combat or to get a screenshot or to enjoy the path I'm following from a different perspective. It just depends. Mostly I'm in 1st person though. I don't see why you can't stay in 3rd person when you play. Some game mechanics draw you out of 1st in other Bethesda games but then you go right back into 3rd.

I go through life in third person, and want to play games in first person. Its immersive and I can get more into the game when I can play it in first person

1st person everything except riding my horse through the wilderness... if it was greatly improved in Skyrim, I might be tempted to use it more, but i honestly cant see how you would use it doing something like archery.
