3rd Person

Post » Tue Sep 14, 2010 5:12 am

I think a 3rd person mode should be included because it would give players chance to see their characters in full gameplay and see how the outfit they are wearing looks,

i personally think it would be good as an optional game type but i'd like to see your views on this subject

1. It's a first person shooter.
2. They do have 3rd person, with a certain ability you will enter a 3rd person view when doing objectives (arming bombs, capturing a CP, hacking a terminal).

As cool as it sounds to have the option to play in 3rd person, it defeats the point of a first person shooter. Imagine how that would sound in an interview or press release

"Brink is a new First Person Shooter from our studio Splash Damage, even if you don't like first person shooters you can still play in 3rd person".

There Isn't a 3rd person mode I.e switch between 1st and 3rd at will etc..

But There is a 3rd person view ability that sends the camera into 3rd person when doing an objective I.e planting an explosive.
So you can see if anyone is coming up behind you *cough*...Wraith...*cough*. :ninja:
(Or to check out your character as well)

But IMO people wanting a 3rd person mode just so they can see the way their character looks.
Is like not making yourself look good to go out (I.e On a date, nightclubbing etc..), just because you can't see yourself all the time.
Just my Opinion, not tryin to be rude  .

i understand your point but, Mw2 was a FPS but it had a 3rd person gametype and i was quite dissapointed when i found out Black ops didnt have it. I think SD would be making a good choice to put it in. As a whole different gametype i mean for those players that enjoyed the 3rd person mode

FIRST PERSON shooter.
If you add 3rd person, it would slow down the game and make it require completely different game mechanics. The pace would slow down as well.

It's like WPRank and Darkphoenix said: there's an ability that gives you temporary 3rd person, while completing certain objectives. While you use this, you're not able to move nor shoot.

Also: "Cod has it" is NOT a valid point.

3rd person is sort of cheating though, since it allows you to see around corners n stuff.
When playing against first person players that is.

thats not what i meant, what i meant was that there is a specific game type where everyone in the game is in 3rd person mode

I think this will divide the player base. They already added so much innovative stuff. 3rd person in a fast paced objective type just wouldn't work and seems more like a gimmick to me. Something you try once or twice to decide that you rather play the game as intended.

I like third person, but not really in shooters. (Gears of war worked). The only thing I don't like about first person is not being able to see my feet lol (Halo let me see my feet :celebration: )

It happens quite a lot that people don't agree with the OP, especially when they're doing a suggestion for more options or altering the way certain mechanics work. The guy that wanted quickscoping in this game got flamed like hell.

you may have noticed that i mention COD quite a bit but that isnt because im a really devoted fan its just the fact that i dont see why SD couldnt add a 3rd person mode as simple as Mw2 i didnt mean for them to copy it in any way, but thought that the game type in Mw2 was quite popular for the people that like 3rd person (like me) and i think SD could benefit from putting it in. As an alternative mode? not "you have to do both 1st and 3rd person to get all achievements/unlocks or whatever

It doesn't work that way. Nobody can get everything he wants in the game, especially not at this stage of the development. I, for example, don't like ADS, but I don't ask to take it out.

Splash Damage wants to keep their fanbase and I'm glad they do. They don't just follow mainstream shooters, even though they have features that ressemble them.
You asked our opinions, we gave our opinions and we said why we think something should/shouldn't be in the game and try to give arguments to prove it.

I think the majority of people here rather see more maps/customization/female characters/theather mode than a third person gametype. Not everyone can be pleased.

This is simply wrong. Just like saying a cover system does slow down the game without fuss or quibble.
People who play fast (run&gun) will force others to adapt to that playstyle, thus enforcing fast-paced gameplay.

Anyway. I really like 3rd-Person-Shooters. I actually prefer them a lot over FPSs. And even though I'd like to see something like that in BRINK, it doesn't have to be there at release. (Also a theatre-mode is even more important to me.)

i agree with everything you have said here and the only reason i posted about my 3rd person idea and not theatre mode was because i saw quite a few posts on that subject, and also thanks for backing me up

Overall, I think there is a time a place person shooters - and it isn't in Brink. I have nothing against 3rd person shooters, Star Wars Battlefront was excellent in 3rd person, but for Brink I believe having it strictly in first person works the best.

However, if they were to add 3rd person elements, I think they could do it like how UT does it, where at the end of a match, the highest scoring players on the winning team is shown in 3rd person. Maybe they could do the same thing for Brink, or maybe show everyone on the winning team in 3rd person, perhaps with victory animations?

Why do so many people hate ADS?

I am aware of the cutscenes, I was simply saying, if there was 3rd person on Brink, that is how I could see it implemented.

I agree, third person shooter game mode would be pretty awesome. I'm a big fan of TPS, but I still like FPS too.

This is true. In rainbow six vegas I would try to use the cover system but had a jerk friend who had ridiculous halo skills and twitch reflexes and he just ran around like a maniac killing terrorists and not dying. And that game was literally built around cover. And he'd do the same thing in gears of war. What's theatre mode?

Theatre mode is very important to have in a game imo. It encourages hacker reporting with good proof, videos that get posted on youtube creating more hype and free advertising, and provides users ability to review their gameplay and others.

I don't really feel there is a reason for it, but I would not be bothered if it was there. It definitely couldn't make the game worse.
