50Steps_To_Stable_FCOM+++

From page 1, 1st post:

Just asking: Should this not be the Wrye Python 03a package rather?

http://www.tesnexus.com/downloads/download.php?id=66125

It leads to Wrye Python 3a and has been changed respectively. Thank you.

Following your guide - thanks :goodjob:
Couple of suggestions- questions

Suggestion 1; 2 ; 3: Tags were explained as at time of creating this tread they were somewhat obscure. Nowadays BOSS handles all tags and these explanations are redundant. Will remove them asap. Thank you.

Yeah, I'm wondering if Blade is still following his thread. His guidance is generally good but could be clarified is some specific instances. I found Tomlong's guide actually even more valuable, at least concerning the part that is dealing with FCOM basic setup which is the biggest hurdle in my opinion.

Pretty much. I dedicated to FCOM installation only a thread, Tomlong dedicated a site. I found lots of good suggestions there and folloowed them with extremely good results.
The thing is, Tomlong converted me to a BAIN user status. Nowadays am maintaining the FCOM+++ thread for the benefit of our community, i.e. its hardcoe OBMM users.
Would like to emphasize though that since started using BAIN reinstalled the game only twice and updating any mod takes no more than 15- minutes as BAIN makes overriding impossible. You can juggle all your files, no overriding.

Why are those 2 especially FCOM supported ? can't find any info on this
They are listed as FCOMsupported because the authors of FCOM had them in mind when creating the whole compatibility project.
So, because the FCOM writers listed them as especially supported, so did I.

Also :Is this needed to be installed with FCOM (I know it's optional - I mean installed while installing FCOM) - or you list it there as belonging to categorie Items ?
Thanks :)

I remember the OOO patch was custom made after I requested it.
The OOO patch makes Xia's exlusive jewellery lootable for OOO users. OOO is integral part of FCOM.
I play both FCOM and Xia's amulets and consider them inseparable for my game, so I install Xia's amulets fairly early and advice people to do the same.

The blade is here to stay :D As for the amulets of Xiamara - they are so breathtakingly beautiful that after playing the original I started sobbing until Francisco made me a patch that makes them loot when played with OOO.
Before that they could only be bought at IC jewellery shop.
With the patch high ranking ringleaders, warlords and vampire patriarchs have chance to donate to my collection. Of course they need some persuation. :D
There is even a way to make an amulet with custom picture :D

Thanks for the very informative reply !!!

You're wellcome.

Silly me for not looking at this thread before (I don't run FCOM so didn't think there was much reason to do so ;))! This little gem seems to have worked wonders for me:

RPG-Black Dragon AT 2.0 Shader improves FPS and keeps all the HDR goodness

And those amulets you recommended sure look very nice, will add those to my game aswell. Cheers for this!

so many conflicting informations on the internets about installation order, but i am going to try this one. Just wondering where would Quarl 3 replacer's fit in all this?

At this time I am following the updated Fcom load order and adding extra stuff afterwards according to the 50 steps.

What do you guys think of the recommendations here opposed to this list?

Follow the instructions from official FCOM thread by all means. I try to keep installing instructions and links up to date but am a bit lazy so some bits might be a bit behind.
As for TESIVPOSItive, well, Thomlong's site compared to this thread is like a modern 21st century tank compared to medieval cuirass... same purpose but a bit different level :D

Yo!

I like the updated guide. It is even easier to follow. It looks like I really did not miss any major FCOM updates. I'm looking forward to the OOO beta 6 patch though. Also, what settings are you using in your OSR INI? Maybe I should just post in SkyRanger's thread about that...

Hi, Tomlong! Nice to hear from you! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and all the community! :foodndrink:
As for Osr - I use the default ini with FPS Max=30; FPS Min =10 and Heapmode=1, the rest is what SkyRanger decided to use. He knows better I think :D
Of course, if you've learned some new tricks I wouldn't mind to hear.

It's the first time that I am adventuring on a FCOM installation and I just wanted to say thanks to Blade for this guide! Just one question. I've reached step 21, where it's said to rebuild the bashed patch. I've done that and I decided to take a tour of the world (expecting some major disaster). I've been playing for 7-8 hours straight without a single crash, only a few missing female boots or greaves that I've already fixed - thx FormID Finder. Is it a sufficient time to consider it a somewhat stable installation worth of a backup?

It's good if you can go three hours without a crash, so congrats to you. That's great!

Glad to hear that. I've been running around for another hour (for a total of 8-9 hours) so I guess it's enough for now. I'll make a backup of the whole \Data folder and then I'll proceed to install QTP3, Better Cities, Unique Landscapes and something else. There is just one minor thing that I've not been able to solve: when I enter one of IC's districts the guards next the doors equip the torches (even at midday) bringing down my FPS from 60 to 30 then, after 4-5 secs, they unequip them and my FPS comes back to 60.

The equipping/unequipping of torches when entering the cell is an unfortunate sideeffect of the OOO guards with torches feature. Nothing can be done about it. The performance hit seems weirdly huge, though.

Ok, I was the only thing that was making me worrying about some mistake I could have made during the installation.

The performance hit seems weirdly huge, though.

I've noticed the same thing happening when I entered the tavern added by Ruined-Tales Tale near Weye. Some lights and some NPCs, the same FPS drop from 50-60 to 25 and then it raised to 40-45.

Light source based slowdowns happened to me cause of the Real Lights mod (from All natural). Do you happen to have that? Try disabling it and rebuilding the bash patch with it unchecked from "Import scripts". That solved it for me.

No I don't have that. I should look if I have something similar to that mod in my load order that maybe attach some rather heavy script to the torches.

I'm doing a new install and attempting to do a full (as possible) BAIN install. Couple of questions and concerns I haven't been able to find answers to. Looking at TomLong's pages it seems that she orders all her mods and then does basically an "install all" and lets BAIN do it's thing. Question that arises from this: Looking at her ordered mod lists does BAIN install the mods in an ascending (low number to higher) or descending (higher number to lower) order? This would seem to make it extremely important to have everything in a highly precise order. Or would you suggest that installation should follow your 50 step guide and just do one or two mods at a time adding in the appropriate patches as dictated by the last mods installed? One more question: Would it make a difference if single .esp mods or patches were installed manually and not through BAIN? I have been playing with FCOM for a long time installing with OBMM and want to see if an installation with BAIN does really increase the games stablilty, Thanks for any and all responses in advance.

Sorry, I can't help you about the BAIN part because I've never used it to install mods but I can tell you what I've done following this guide. I've done everything to step 4, then I've used http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1142151-rel-mtes4-manager/ to create a clone of the installation (so I end up with 2 copies, I named one "MAIN" and another "TEST". I've followed the guide step by step OMODding together the mods of a single step (if they are not already in OMOD form) and named the OMOD accordingly (e.g. Step 05, Step 06...). Installed the OMOD in the TEST install, cleaned the .esps where necessary and tested for stability and/or errors. When everything worked I moved the files to the MAIN copy. Done this to the end of the guide and now I've got my most stable OB installation so far - 6 hours straight without a CTD, using QTP3, RAEVWD, FCOM and (a lot of) other goodies.

As for the single esp installed manually, I don't think there should be any problem (but I'm not an authority on the subject).

Thanks for the information. I've done pretty much the same things you described in using OBMM. Am just never sure what the overwriting of files causes using it. My next goal is to learn how to use the mTES4 and do much the same what you have described.

Blade Of Mercy, reading your installing 50 steps, I see Kvatch Aftermat, FCOM and Better Cities installed together ... so there are no conflict? I ask because I want to make an install of FCOM with BC and Kvatch Aftermat together and if this is possible I will be extremely happy

I just started BAIN installs myself (currently mixing w/ OMODs), so don't quote me on this, but I believe BAIN packages install from top to bottom. So if you have example.esp in folder 01 and example.esp in folder 02, the latter will over-write the former.

No significant conflict. just a matter of installing all necessary required mods and establishing load order.

About to start digging into this, just wanted to say thanks for making it so easy. :)

Quick question though - where would I fit Unique Landscapes into this?

Hi, the guide says step 23, just when you install Better Cities. ;)
