I have a question concerning the installation order now that BAIN is becoming so popular and as I am slowly learning (hard for an old dog to learn new tricks) a better way to install mods including FCOM. I am going to now attempt to begin using mTES4 for multiple installs and want to make a "base" install that includes several mods that this list recommends be added after most of FCOM, body mods, clothing and armor replacers etc. I will be using both BAIN and OBMM since I have been unable to get some to install properly under BAIN. I would say 90% of mods will be installed with BAIN. Concern is: Will there be any real problems doing an FCOM clone and not following the 50 Steps order? Or does using BAIN pretty much negate that necessity? Thanks in advance for any replies and the patience to read the rambling.
Seeing how you seem to know what you are doing, you should see things for what they are. This guide is very good and works for alot of people. However, some of the steps do not necessarily have to be done in the order listed, although the order listed is a great standard.
For exapmle. mods that only have esp, esm, and bsa files (no loose files), it does not really matter when you INSTALL them, only where you place them in the load order when launching the game (done in mods tab in wrye bash and usually sorted by BOSS). The only mods that depend on INSTALL order are ones that have loose files that may overwrite other loose files. Know what I mean? Personally I install in this order:
DLCs
Unofficial patches
World texture packs (QTP, Vibrant, etc)
Interface and menu changes (darnified UI, display stats, TQP, Keychain, etc)
Body mods (HGEC, Roberts, HGEC textures)
Overhauls (OOO COBL MMM FCOM etc)
EVE (no textures just equipment replacers)
Everything else
Always keeping in mind what files will overwrite others. This is where BAIN is great and I will sometimes move a mod in the install order because of the files I want.
Same goes for activating mods one by one. I have done this a couple of times but saw no difference in my game if I activated all 200 esm and esp files. For others it is different and activating one by one works better. So you have to try and decide for yourself.
In my case I install the overhaul mods (like FCOM) that change leveled lists and gameplay setting first. Play with that for an hour and then add all the other mods that do not have to be loaded at game creation start.
In short, I personally do not see one as I have a base FCOM copyt that I use if I want an FCOM base to mod.
