6th house

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 3:29 am

This really just hit me, and perhaps I didn't pay enough attention to the MW main quest (at least, the parts i did), but I've never totally gotten this. I know that Dagoth Ur is the leader of House Dagoth, the fallen 6th house of Vvardenfell, and is trying to use the heart of some dwemery thing to become a god like Vivec did. But there are a few things I still don't get... Dagoth is the 6th house... who is house 4 and 5? I can think of great house Redoran, Hlallu, and Telvani, but thats all that comes to mind. Are houses 4 and 5 fallen too? If so, did they disperse to other houses, or did they go to another province? Why is dagoth sill around?

I would probably understand better if I would just finish Morrowinds main quest, however it always got boring because I never understood it (and because the ashlader/horator quests are boring as hell). Can anyone shed some light on and around the 6th house? I've always liked them, but never really understood anything about 'em

Hlaalu, Redoran and Telvanni are the only three that one encounters in Vvardenfell. The other two are Indoril and Dres - the first being Nerevar's old House - which only have holdings on the mainland.

The Dwemer are also sometimes considered as a Great House. They were members of the First Council, too, after all. However, they're usually lumped in with House Dagoth.

That's actually not what was happening. You really didn't pay much attention, did you?

The heart was not the Dwemer's. They found it. It was Lorkhan's heart. He was a god. Dagoth Ur had already gained divinity from it, he was just hopping to use it to power a giant robot which he was to turn into a god and use to free Morrowind from the Imperials. That, and turn everyone nito evil Lovercraftian mutants.

And we also have houses minor too numerous to count.

True, that... although it's more convenient to think of them as "families" or "clans". I tend only to think of a Dunmer clan as a "House" when it becomes a self-sustaining political construct.

The house system seems to be a conglomerate oligarchy only to allow more "nobles" positions of power, but you'd think each clan would have a different system of governance if they were independent much. It seems to be a well used template they cruise on, one of stasis.

Well, some houses minor (Sotha for example) seem to have HQs, military forces and everything.

I tend to think of the house structure in Morrowind much the same way as that of Dune. The houses minor are usually allied with major houses but can change that allegiance at will.

That's kinda what I think too. At least, that's how I think it were at some point, but at the time of the Nerevarine Incident, many of the smaller houses have been "allied" to the larger ones for so long that they have almost merged.

But I don't think the minor houses were that free to begin with, though. If they didn't have protection from a more powerful/influencial house, I don't think they would have survived for long.
