I don't think that is possible if you want a good computer... But hopefully someone finds you something. I'm looking at a good computer that doesn't even come with a monitor/keyboard/mouse for 2.4k. So good luck!

It may be a bit early to start trying to do that. First of all, we don't know what kind of requirements the game will have. Second, it's still some nine months away. In nine months, the hardware and prices will change. So wait until you know what you need, then start looking for inexpensive hardware.

You WILL NOT be able to get even a remotely decent rig with all those peripherals for under $700. Are you sure there's absolutely nothing you can salvage from your old stuff?

Build one off Newegg.

Seriously, the savings you can get from purchasing the parts and assembling the thing itself are fantastic, and if you're adamant at all about PC gaming having all the knowledge that comes from building a PC is worth its weight in troubleshooting and upgrading.

Since the pc version wont look to different from the console version you can be guaranteed a 600-700 dollar system will work fine. Heck you dont even need a DX11 system for it, we get "higher resolution textures" so unless the the engine supports DX11 dont worry all you'll need those dx11 cards for is running graphical improvement mods which most likely will be needed.

OF COURSE there are other games coming out like BF3, The witcher 2, Shogun 2; which will actually push pc tech further.

Don't run too much attention with websites. They just look at the specs and compare. Will you run the game maxed out? Probably not. Will you still be able to run it? More than likely.

2 years ago I got a computer for $975 off newegg

i7 920
9 gigs ram
x58 mobo
gtx 260
750 gig hard drive

and all the regular stuff that comes with a computer. This computer is a lot better than Xbox, or PS3 and will work with skyrim, but at what settings I'm not sure.... However I do plan on upgrading my Video Card before game release to it's maximum potential.

Your gonna have a real tough time, since the video cards and cpu alone is gonna run you close to 4-500 alone.

It will max it no problem like todd said we get "higher resolution textures" other than that it's basically like the console version o and we get AA, but yeah pretty weak i know.

Of course when texture mods come in..glorious they shall be.

haha i have the EXACT same situation as you. luckily i did research. here are the links to all the parts. intstead of a moniter i'm using an hdmi cord to hook up to my tv, but if you really want one you don't have to spend more than a hundred dollars for one.

total is $737.04. i checked the specs on gamedebate.com and with these specifications you will be able to run this or any other modern game on highest settings no problem.
i would double check for compatibility with the motherboard and stuff, but this should give you a pretty close idea.

Highly doubtful, and besides which everything I've heard says Dells are a [censored] and a half to upgrade. You'd be better off cannibalizing out the DVD burner and HD and MAYBE the RAM and putting those in a new build. You can probably make do with the monitor until a sale comes along.

I would wait and not buy anything. Anything you buy right now, yoiu will be able to say $250 or more by the time Skyrim comes out. Also we don't know what the specs are yet, so you may still have to buy to be able to play, so I would say wait. What costs $1200 right now, you may get for your $700 11/11/11 so I say hold on to the money and wait.

I got a good one for 600, but I had a monitor.

If you want this specifically for Skyrim, wait till mid-October. Prices on current hardware will (probably) have decreased by then.

I dropped $3,000 on my machine that I built myself.. The only changes I'm going to make is get the most up to date video card x2 for SLI or Crossfire, SSD and a bigger monitor. My plan is to make this game run super smoothly so that when the hi-res textures come out I can run them flawlessly.

$2400.00.... seriously? All I can say is don't buy PCs from AlienWare (speculation, given that outrageous price you quoted), they are a HUGE ripoff. I just had a brand new system built for $1300 that would have cost me almost $3k from them... and its all but top of the line. To pay so much for a pre-built PC is just rediculous, and often your paying a ton for just the name/case.

Building a PC for $700 that can run Skyrim would probably be pretty easy. However, having to include even a very cheap keyboard, mouse, monitor, and speakers in the price makes it extreamly hard since your looking at probably $150-200 just for those items... leaving about $500 for the PC itself. If you can find a way to eliminate that cost, and spend the full $700 on hardware then yes, you should be able to make a decent gaming PC. It would be even better if you have parts you can take from an old PC (such as drives, hard disks, case, sound card, power supply) so you can spend as much as possible on a processor and graphics card.

At the very least wait until August or so, since I bet there'll be a bunch of sales for suppliers hoping to hook the college-bound crowd or people getting ready for the late 2011 game release extravaganza, not to mention the natural fall of hardware prices as developers try to push out the next generation.

we can use some logic here.

1: we PC gamers get higher resolution textures (hardly a performance issue here)
2: all versions will look about the same
3: most likely still using dx9 since all versions will "look about the same" so hence no dx11

So yeah specs should be med/low end pc capable easily a 600 dollar rig, but remember there are other games out there like BF3 (a huge pc title dx11/10, 64bit os ect ect win7/vista only), the witcher 2, shogun 2, stalker 2, diablo 3, Crysis 2 ect and so on lots of games using DX11 and the PURE PAHWA of the pc. Lol rage/brink using opengl fail so much for ID "pushing tech."

DX11 is the future and it is buckets of win.

And a very good read

A decent monitor and speaker system will probably be in the 300 dollar range itself, which only leaves 400 for the system, which won't get you very much. If I were you I'd try to find a used monitor and speaker system on craigslist or something. You can always upgrade them later pretty easily.

As for the computer itself, I bought mine about three years ago and I don't plan on getting another one for a while. It runs Oblivion quite well and I expect to get atleast a similar level of performance out of Skyrim. That being said, you should probably wait until we get some official system requirements before making any purchases. Remember, the longer you wait, the better hardware you can get for your money.

Do NOT buy your PC for Skyrim even remotely soon, prices will drop drastically in 9 months time.
