7000 steps - how to make them awesome

Post » Sun Apr 17, 2011 5:02 am

Here is my idea on how you can make 7000 steps an actual adventure on its own. Boots of blinding speed is left at home, and horse is left below:

Check out the suggested videos too... This is plain nuts :D
I'm acrophobic myself, so doing it ingame would actually be a nice challenge :D

The actual steps are probably wider and safer, since Hrothgar is a pilgrimage spot. I'd love to have something like that pathway in Skyrim though.

I would assume the steps are something like this: http://www.crawfordenterprise.com/PhotoGallery/2003%20China/Photos/Day4-Tiashan-Mountian-Steps.jpg

Except, you know, way more of them.

Hopefully they have the 418th step show signs of repair.

Add:

From "The Five Songs of King Wulfharth":

The second song of King Wulfharth glorifies his deeds in the eyes of the Old Gods. He fights the eastern Orcs and shouts their chief into Hell. He rebuilds the 418th step of High Hrothgar, which had been damaged by a dragon. When he swallowed a thundercloud to keep his army from catching cold, the Nords called him the Breath of Kyne.

To truly make the 7000 steps amazing, you need a slinky and start it's decent from the top. "Go, Slinky go!"

We all know how well that'll work out though:

"Awww, it stopped on the second step :sadvaultboy: "

7000 steps ? It's not as if it'll be much different than 7 or 70 anyway. :P

*You are at the bottom of the steps. Would you like to climb ?*
*yes*
*You are now at the top : grey-bearded men ! Huzzah !*

No way in hell Beth would have mentioned having all 7000 steps in-game if you couldn't climb them.

I'm still skeptical about it actually being 7,000 steps... seems mind-boggling.

@Kitoro:
You might want to add Ankor Wat to that list too. Also some hefty steps: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=02_kfNDLrmk
I wouldn't want 7000 uses of "use climb" though in the game :D
I'm afraid Jacobs Ladder and Fl?rli Trappa (Fl?rli Stairs, 4444 steps, right in my neighborhood) would be a bit boring.

I exaggerate ; it is likely there will be some form of climbing, if only to add gravitas. I do hope they make it crazy as in the link in the op - despite my stupid vertigo-by-proxy, or because of it, maybe. :D

Still have my doubt about the actual number, tho. :P No way there's fast travel on one hand, and exactly 7000 steps to climb on the other.

Not necessarily; if you look at the related videos you will see some footage of people climbing Mount Hua (Hua Shan). That is a pilgrimage and it's probably even more dangerous than el Caminito del Ray, in some places at least. Plus we're talking about a fantasy game here, so I think it would be alright to take some liberties with the design. Plus it's been 200+ years since we had any info on the area, so it could easily be somewhat deteriorated in Skyrim, even if it wasn't too dangerous during the time that Morrowind or Oblivion were set.

I think "climbing" the stairs has been exaggerated in some peoples minds. Your just going to walk up them, that is what "climbing" means lol.

[Grey Beards lead the Adventurer to the other side behind the College]

Grey Beard: BEHOLD ADVENTURER!!!! The Throat of the World has a tongue and that tongue is a ICE SLIDE!!!!

I read it as 'arachnophobic' and expected to see the steps into Mordor from LOTR with Shelob guarding the top.
