Abilene Kid LE BB Gun

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 9:37 am

So, I was messing around, and wiped out all of Novac with the Abilene Kid.

So, with Helios just up the road, I figured why not test this on more armored folk, and so, all NCR dead.

Now, I noticed it is lever action. Never taken the Cowboy perk, as I usually a EW kinda guy, but does that perk work with the Abilene Kid? Any other perks? If so, I think I just discovered my new all time favorite weapon.

Ya I play on hardcoe, so the weight of BBs is almost nil. Really wondering about a perk set with this.

You tried taking a deathclaw out with it?

Cowboy works on it. You can actually take a deathclaw out with it on lower difficulty settings.

Its best feature is its insane crit damage.

Its worst feature is its comparatively high spread.

So I'm guessing Cowboy, Finesse, and Better Crits are essential. Has good range, was at times almost shooting blind but knocked off some fire ants with shots I would generally use a scoped rifle with. I will have to try out against deathclaws, from the sounds of things will have to go legs first.

Yeah, but it's cool because BBs are so light and cheap and the thing's durable and quiet enough that taking that extra shot isn't anything to worry about.

It's not really as much of a monster against armored targets. You can one-shot deathclaws with it but only on the very easy setting. You really might still do enough damage on higher difficulties to cripple a limb though. Haven't really tried.

Heh... I killed a few BoS guys before taking a gauss in the face. I think I can do if no companions, as I was unnoticed until Ed-E went off and got himself gaussed.

Of course, I was also only wearing a FoTA lab coat.

I will probably have to end up creating a new character, as my guns is sub-40.

Edit: Seems like taking Trigger Discipline to help with spread, at least I think that is the trait that does that, would be wise choice, too..

A high Luck would also be very useful since its crit chance isn't anything special.

I generally always roll with Luck 8 pre implants. I'm guessing Trigger Discipline, Built to Destroy, Cowboy, Finesse, Better Crits would be good start for a Abilene build.

Seems like it'd be kind of a novelty thing to make an entire build around Abilene Kid. Your crit chance isn't gonna be enough to be reliable in straight up combat even with all that.

Having said that, If I were gonna do it, I'd take Fast Shot over Trigger Discipline. You'd definitely want to shoot faster rather than farther/truer at the moments where it counted. (ie., an angry someone you didn't kill in one shot is rushing you).
