Abilities?

Post » Fri May 13, 2011 6:43 am

Hey what's up people

So I was reading through the Brink Bible a.k.a Compendium (I do so whenever I have an unanswered question), and I couldn't find a solid answer to my question.

I know that you get your 3 Class Abilities and however many Universal Abilities but what I'm wondering is do you get 3 abilities per Class or do you only get three abilities that you have to decide which class(es) to use it on before a match? Also another thing is I know that you can have upgraded abilities(life buff, turret etc.) but can you have 1 fully upgrade ability and two other abilities or only 1 fully upgraded ability?

Here are some quotes that would lead me to my questions.

"You aren’t ‘locked’ into being only a Medic just because you leveled up all the Medic upgrades"
~H0rse Compendium

"In the rush I forgot to check my perks so I had whatever stuff the person before me picked and I think they were all engineer perks, of which I played very little so they didn't help at all."
~MaawDawg (Played Brink at Pax 2011)

So, as you can see I'm very confused on the matter and any input on it would be greatly appreciated.

Of course class abilities will be class revolved, But the universal abilities, no matter which class, I pretty sure will always be activated.

You choose your abilities and set up your weapons before you enter a match, then when you change a class during a game, the abilities you choose prior will be what you will use for each class, and the weapon you choose will have the attachments you gave it beforehand.

From what I know, there are 5 groups of abilities, with 2 subgroups.

There are a group of abilities for each class, then one for all classes.

Every ability is either Passive or Active. Passive abilites work all the time, like the one that tells you if an enemy has you in thier sights. Active abilites work during select times, like the Engineer's Turret, or the Medic's Adrenaline shot.

You go into battle with no more and no less than 3 abilites (I don't know if that means 3 Active abilities or 3 overall abilites).

It mean 3 active - passive abilities are separate.

To answer the question you have, in my opinion, is that if you fully upgrade you turret (lv 3) for the engineer you can still have weapon buff and landmines as well because the turret is one ability. You do not have to use all three ability points (if thats what we are calling them) on lv 1 turret lv 2 turret and lv 3 turret to use the lv 3 turret.

Yes you do.

In order to get a lvl 3 turret, you have to purchase lvl 1 and 2 first, so you are essentially spending 3 points on 1 ability, where you could have purchased 3 separate abilities.
Higher lvl turrets take the place of lower lvl variants, so you will only ever have 1 turret available.

The turret only uses up 1 of your 3 slots, but you must spend multiple points to purchase higher lvl versions.

Sorry thank you for clarifying but i will edit my post to say that a lv 3 turret will only take one active ability slot as apposed to all three and not allowing for any more ie the weapon buff or the land mine.

Perhaps the amount of health you gain back from the revive increases per level, or the time it takes to revive yourself decreases per level. Although I'm more inclined to think that the self-revive ability doesn't have "ranks" of ability like turrets, weapon damage, health buffs, etc, as being able to revive yourself is special enough. I mean, how does an Operative's Cortex Bomb 3 work, blows up anything in a hundred foot radius? Nah, better to just leave that as is, it's special enough.

I imagine that any ability without a number behind it (examples of those with being Life Buff 1, Weapon Buff 1, etc) don't have upgrades.

Revive with over-heal and feeling trippy?

So when you say "high on life", that could actually be a real condition in this game?

Cortex bomb could have a larger blast radius withought being a hundred feet. Just an idea.

I thought when you get revived you don't feel dazed and trippy.

Sure, why not? If you somehow have 150 percent life, that's gotta do something. Maybe blurring around the edges of the screen?

To be honest, I meant my first post as a joke, but it's actually not that bad an idea.

I was joking too. I'm not sure player should be penalized for having more than 100% health because then there would be a demand for a penalty to weapon buffs, upgraded turrets, etc. The balance to the health buff is the weapon damage buff.

Tactical nuke?

You die, you win the game.

Well I don't see every ability having 3 levels.

Of course not.
I'm quite sure the minority of all abilities will have em.
