Ability speculations: My guesses

This has probably been done in the past, but I figured since some of you are doing "for fun" topics, I would do one as well. The concept is simple - Going by what we know so far, use knowledge and educated guesses think up the abilities for each class and the universal abilities. Going by the videos and what have been said, it looks like 10 abilities for category (Soldier, Medic, Engineer, Operative, Universal) so 50 total.

I will describe the ability icons as shown in the and list what I think they represent. Using the videos as a guide, I will list them from left to right, starting with the top row.

I have watched the E3 vid and the #3 dev diary to anolyze the pictures associated with each ability. There is a link to each skill tree as seen in the videos, at the beginning of each category. Studying them, here is what I came up with:

1. Battle Hardened - Battle Hardened increase your life meter by 1 pip. (this one is known)
2. Sense Of Perspective - Sense Of Perspective snaps your view to 3rd person perspective while you complete objectives, allowing you to watch your own back. (this one is known)
3. It is a picture of slippers, which is most likely Silent Footsteps. I say this not only because the picture makes sense, but because Ed Stern said in podcast that silent footsteps was a picture of slippers.
4. (?) I can't tell what this is. I can make out the 3 "upgrade arrows," so it upgrades something the player already has.
5. Picture of a hand with a nade in it. My guess is that it is Sprint while cooking, since I know that such a skill is in the game, and the pic makes sense.
6. Combat Intuition - Intuition allows you to sense if an unseen enemy has you in their sights. (this one is known)
7. Downed Fire - Downed Fire lets you shoot at enemies even when incapacitated. (this one is known)
8. A picture with the same lightning bolt image that is displayed on a players Ability bar. My guess it is some sort Extra Energy skill. either more overall energy, or faster regen.
9. A pic representing a hand moving fast, holding a weapon. My guess is that it is Reload while Sprinting.
10. A grenade with a crosshair on it, is obviously Grenade shooting.

1. Ammo Boxes - Ammo Boxes let you resupply your teammates with ammunition on the battlefield. (this one is known)
2. Looks like a picture representing an explosion with 3 arrows in it pointing up. My guess is Increased Grenade Damage.
3. (?) Not sure what this is. Picture or otherwise
4. An image that looks like it could be either an ammo box with a little + next to it or it looks like 2 weapons magazines My guess is an Ammo Box Upgrade of some sort, or Increased Ammo Capacity for the Soldier.
5. An image that looks like the Splash Damage logo, so this is probably Increased Splash Damage for grenades.
6. A picture of 2 grenades with a + next to them. My guess is Increased Grenade Capacity or possibly Decreased Grenade Cooldown.
7. A pic that looks like some type of optional grenade. My guess is Flashbangs.
8. (?) A picture of talons form a bird, like a hawk or falcon. Although I know what the picture is, I'm not sure what ability this would translate to.
9. A picture of a shield with a heart on it. This is obviously Shield.
10. (?) Looks like an image of a knapsack, bag or pouch. Could also be an image of the Soldiers HE Charge, which could decrease the time it takes to arm them? Not sure what ability this is

Since we know Molotovs are in and I have heard of a Kevlar Vest ability as well, numbers 3, 8 or 10 could be one of those.

1. Life Buff 1 - Life Buff 1 lets you increase a teammate’s health by 1 pip. (this one is known)
2. (?) It looks like a medkit, but I think heals in Brink are handled by syringes. The image does have a + next it, implying it either upgrades something or gives you more of something. Perhaps it is a case of upgraded syringes that do more than just restore health? I don't really know what this is.
3. (?) It's nearly impossible to tell in the link above, but I stopped the video in spot to see what it was, and it is an image of a man sanding, cut off at the torso, with the 3 arrows next to him. It's kind of vague and I realy don't know what it could be.
4. A picture of a man running fast. It has been revealed that Medic's have a buff called Fleet of Foot, which boosts the sprint speed of a teammate, and this is my guess.
5. (?) Looks like a picture of an arm making a muscle, which translates to me as Increase Strength, but I don't know what that would do. Perhaps make it so players can wield bigger weapons than they're normally allowed? I could be way off on this one.
6. Looks almost identical to Life Buff 1 so my guess is Life Buff 2.
7. Looks like a grenade of some sort, so my guess is Lazarus Grenade.
8. (?) The only thing I could make out of this, was it looks like a vest with some sort of device attached to it (maybe a bomb?). Perhaps this is one of the Bio-weapon skills they mentioned?
9. (?) Don't know what this is. Looks like it could be an upgraded version of #2.
10. (?) The image is simply a big cross. It is far too vague for me to try and depict what it could represent.

1. Standard Engineer Kit - Engineers can complete Construction and Repair objectives and can boost their teammates’ weapon damage. (this one is known)
2. Nerves of Steel - Nerves of Steel lets you disarm explosives even faster. (this one is known)
3. Looks like a head with gears turning inside it. My guess is Decreased Setup-time for Deployables or some sort of ability that makes his already existing skills better.
4. It looks like some kind of vest. My guess is Flak Jacket, which gives added protection against explosives. This is also how the Flak Jacket ability for engineers worked in previous SD games, so it makes sense.
5. Looks almost exactly like Standard Engineer Kit, so my guess is Advanced Engineer Kit.
6. Looks like a picture of some sort of landmine, so my guess is Mines 1.
7. Light Turret - This lets you plant a light auto-turret which will detect and fire at enemies. (this one is known)
8. Looks like a Command Post terminal with a wrench in it. My guess is Upgrade Command Post Bonus.
9. Looks like the Light Turret pic, so my guess is Medium Turret.
10. Looks like 2 mines with a + next to them. My guess is Increased Mine Capacity.

1. The Mustache and Nose glasses is obviously Disguise.
2. Sticky Bomb - Sticky Bomb lets you throw a powerful grenade which sticks to any enemy it touches and can only be removed by their teammates. Nasty. (this one is known)
3. It looks like a Command Post terminal with a flame on the desktop. This is most likely Firewall.
4. An Engineer turret with an Operative icon. This is most likely Hack Turret.
5. A bust of player with an impact or damage indicator on the head. This is possibly Backstab.
6. Looks like some type of grenade. My guess is Smoke Grenade.
7. A picture of a hand posing like a "finger gun." This could possibly be Interrogate, but not sure on this one.
8. Picture of binoculars is most likely Spot mines and/or Operatives.
9. It looks like a Remote Control for remote control car or something similar - you can even see the antenna sticking out the top. Through process of elimination, this could be Homing Beacon, which allows you to plant a device and track a players movements.
10. Looks like another type of grenade. My guess is an EMP Grenade, used to shutdown turrets and possibly scramble the minimap for enemy players and/or make hacking impossible for a duration. However, it also looks like it could be a soda can - in which, I have no idea what that is for.

Numbers 6 and 10 could be swapped.


I am aware that the footage I used for these abilities are from older builds of the game, and it is quite possible that a number of them have been changed, rearranged, swapped between classes or even removed. With that being said, all in all, I think most of my assumptions make sense. Post below any comments or ideas you may have.

You can get a new ability every time you lvl, so 20 total, but can only have 3 active abilities equipped at one time. Passive abilities are determined on your Clvl, and I don't know the total amount you can equip at once.

Reloading while Sprinting was mentioned by the devs to be a skill, which is why I said it. -

"The Universal abilities can be used no matter what class you are, and there’s a bunch to choose from here as well -- from simple things like making your life meter longer, to fancy things like shooting grenades out of the air, to hardcoe things like reloading while sprinting"

Although, that post is old. Things could have changed and you could be right. One of my initial thoughts was that it was an image of like a carrying case that contained upgraded syringes.

Which would go hand-in-hand with spotting. Whats the point of spotting something if you don't point it out to others?

In Dark Messiah multiplayer, Priests have the ability to see through Assassin's disguises. However, there is no safer way to point it out than using the marker-ability.

What I'm trying to say, is: In public play, it's easier to mark the enemy Operative with a big fat red arrow with white lights around for the whole team to see. ;)

I was looking at #3 for Soldier in PSCS3 last night while I was drunk, and I really couldn't figure out what it was. :/

And what I was trying to say is that spotting and marking are probably 1 in the same, In W:ET, spotting mines automatically marked them. Spotting Operatives was a skill that placed an icon over disguised Operatives heads. However, I don't remember if everyone or only you could see them.

10 each, plus 10 general for a total of 50. But there are also ranks in certain skills, and you only get 20 skill points per character.

Is it possible to choose others ? (Just for example) Like in WoW, where you can relocate your talent tree, will there be such a feature for Brink ? Because I would hate to have misplaced a skill and then to have to start all over again.

I believe you get a 24 hour test period on abilities then you are stuck with them.

Are we talking about "seeing the enemy" or "actively pointing out the enemy" when talking about "spotting"?

Because I assume an Operative will just see through enemy Operative's disguises, but that doesn't mark them for the whole team.

Ah, well that sounds awesome, better than having to be stuck with them ^^

#EDIT# Oh, btw that 24 hour test period... Is that in-game time or realtime ? ^^

I'd say real time. The PS3 and Xbox's internal clocks are synced with the internet whenever they are active, so there's no way to try and cheat the system. Dunno about PC though.

What do you mean by in-game time?

I would say real-time, because 24 hours in game is a lot of time, unless that is all you play.
