Abiliy to Sprint

Post » Mon Aug 30, 2010 8:27 am

I hate not having the ability to sprint, at least for a short distance. That's because when I encounter some kind of high level creature in the wild that I can't beat, if I have sprint ability I can at least run away from it easily. Anyone knows why Bethesda never implemented sprinting in any of their games?

I am very glad about this addition. Been wanting it for ages. Handy for a quick escape or to disorient your enemy and attack from behind.

Will be nice. Anyone know if it will be walk, run, and sprint or just like jog and sprint?

I'm glad about having sprint as well. In Morrowind and Oblivion, you're almost always running, so you're always going the same speed everywhere. It makes more sense to be able to expend additional stamina to sprint away from trouble or chase down an enemy. There should be an additional drawback, though... like not being able to use your weapon or spells (at least until a certain skill level or perk or something?). I don't know if the article said anything like that since I haven't received it yet.

Just says you will spend Stamina for it and that running back speed has been reduced,

Sprint, combined with the slower backward running speed, will really make movement in Skyrim feel much more realistic.

Just another reason to get excited!

I kinda want to sprint and perform a powerful lunge attack but I can see the need to add a perk to not take advantage of the sprint.

Due to sprint, I'm putting my levelup bonus into stanima.

They had to put it in for the bow kiting backwards running speed nerf.

Slightly off topic, but can enemies sprint?

Seriously, I haven't gotten my GI issue yet.

I really hope they make it so you can go right from a walk to sprint. I'd hate to see sprint simply be a multiplier of your current speed.

Yes, rule of thumb in TES, if you can do something so can the enemy.

If Acrobatics are back in, I'd like to do jumping attacks, too.

Not necessarily, in Oblivion a enemy couldn't hop on a near by horse and chase you down. I don't even think the enemy could jump in Oblivion.

Or use unique spells and abilities or sneak behind you. Still, sprinting seems simple enough to be plausible.

Don't remember ever seeing an NPC jump. Or using TK. Or Charm or Frenzy on you.

The only problem with this is it makes me worry we'll lose athletics, with the hints at having no attributes we may have all our characters running the same speed. One of my favorite parts of Morrowind was using my vampire assassin to run and jump through cities killing whoever I pleased and escaping easily with my monstrous speed and jumping.

I have yet to see an enemy hop up to a ledge I just jumped onto while chasing after me =/

I really hope the average running speed is much slower than in Oblivion. I felt like I was playing an FPS from the early nineties.

Oh, how I remember those days... if run speed is normalized I might just play on PC, since mods will inevitably change that within minutes of launch.

True. They usually just shook violently in a corner until they warped to your location.

As far as the stamina meter goes, does anyone know any uses for it besides sprinting? The ability to raise it every level instead of health or magic makes it seem as though it will be important.
