Be able to drink water?

Post » Fri Jan 28, 2011 12:33 pm

Do you want to be able to drink from lakes, rivers etc.. (ala Fallout) for a small renewal of health?

for me this is quite good for immersion.

I would like this. However, I would like it so that you couldn't sit there and recover from being bludgeoned and slashed to 1% by drinking some water.

Things like this I like, but games never implement it properly. I don't want super magic water. Maybe it can heal a certain amount like 15% health or something, and then not be able to do so for a while. I thought Fallout handled this very shoddily tbh.

I would preffer the actual need to drink it, more than being advantageous.

well im a strict non magic user in all TES games.

it is too convientient.. I prefer the ranger, living off the land type (alchemy is a must) though even then I rely mostly on wortcraft.

The worst thing about drinkable water in Fallout 3 was the fact that you activated the drinking instead of opening those containers etc with loot.

That is basically a hardcoe mode and is a separate issue, not everyone would like this, so it should be optional. But, like I said it's a separate issue and shouldn't really be the discussion.

Maybe it could just give a non stackable little buff to stamina?

Nothing heals a good sword wound like drinking some water.

Actually, another thing about water is that it prevents coagulation to an extent. So a good point. xD

Maybe we can drink some of it for a bit of health back, but not Fallout-style "drinking water removes all wounds *derp* ".

No. There's nothing particularly wrong with the idea, but it adds nothing to the game. Waste of developer time.

Intersting that everyone thinks of buffing instead of water being a detrement..

[mode=superrealistic]
What a great idea! First of all we need water. If we can eat, why can't we drink the water? Second, using think of the ramifications of drinking the water: combat dehydration, energy boosts or diarhea! The latter would allow for bathrooms! Which, in turn, gives us one more ingrediant for alchemy, or for farming, or for...Oh, and then it could weaken you do to dehydration as well. And cooking! [/superrealistic] ;)

For me, I'd only drink the water if the game forced me to do it.

Wrong. It adds a way of healing (slightly hopefully), an added purpose for water as opposed to just 'something to look at', and a bone for all those role-players.

Don't get me wrong on the last one, I wouldn't want water to be a neccesity, but I imagine it's nice to think your character can drink, as opposed to living off alcohol or the absorption of moisture from the air.

Of course, I wouldn't be too bothered if it wasn't in. But I don't think it's a waste of developer time.

yeah you dont have drink it to heal..

but if you were cleaved by a blade, you would use water to clean blood and dirt from around the wound.

and yeah in MW the only drinks were alcoholic, which svcks when roleplaying a teetotaller.

If there were only other races to pick from. Say, just a couple. 9 or so wouldd be overkill.

Did you notice that or did you not get a little help? *Nudge nudge*

It would seem to be a simple thing to add, so I hope they do

But it needs to be capped i.e if it restores health, it needs to only restore it to,say, 10% of hit points. In other words, enough of a health boost to be able to stagger to a nearby town to find an inn or a bedroll, but not enough to make you fully fit again.

Since we can eat food and drink alcohol, it only makes sense that we could drink water as well. Though rather than having it restore health, I'd go with stamina myself. Obviously, this couldn't have been done in Fallout 3 since there was no stamina in that game, but in the Elder Scrolls, it can do that. Now, I can buy food healing you, for the sake of giving the player a reason to eat in a game where it's not required, but having water heal you is slightly strange. On the other hand, drinking to restore stamina makes sense, after all, people often feel thirsty after intense physical exertion, which is what stamina would represent. Though to balance this out, stamina would need to regenerate slower than fatigue did in Morrowind and Oblivion or there would really be little reason to drink. Also, I'd say that you should be able to carry bottled water, whether just having it be another item like alcohol or actually being able to fill empty bottles at water sources. After all, it would be kind of troublesome to need to actually go to a water source every time you wanted to drink and usually, one would probably just not bother unless one just happened to be handy, bottled water gives you the ability to carry the water you want with you. Plus it just makes sense, if you can drink the water, why wouldn't you want to keep some of it handy whenever you need it?
