be able to eat alchemy ingredients on the spot.

Post » Tue Apr 13, 2010 3:13 am

I would like to be able to eat an apple right off the bush if I wish rather than pick it up first and go into my inventory to eat it.

there should be an option to do this.

No, just no. How would I use it for alchemy then?

An even if it was optional and I could still store them, it would be just plain dumb. You must be pretty lazy for not wanting to open the inventory to eat an apple.

Okay I think we are all getting bored waiting for information and we are just coming up with random stuff to nitpick until the GI comes out.

I suppose "option" means you could be able to do both, otherwise it doesn't make sense. I can't really see this as anything else than a low, low, low, LOW priority...

ingredients alone give minor buffs ie health.

people woo roleplay enjoy eating food.

it has nothing to do with making potions, but eating food out in the wild.

Roleplay eating food? Can't you just do it on the damn inventory?
I still don't see why this is so important to you...

Which you can do by going into your inentory and eating the apple.
I'd be fine with Apple trees, not complicated options when I'm harvesting.

And given how Bethesda does things, adding it would still leave you griping- because we all know full well how it would likely work: instead of activating the tree putting the apple into your inventory then you have to go through all the horrific pain and struggle of opening your pack, it would change to activating the tree opening a shuddering, script-driven dialog:

You have selected an Apple.
[Pick the Apple and put it into your pack]
[Eat the Apple]
[Do nothing]

And of course being script-driven, this would make picking 3 apples in a row take longer than emptying a small farm in Oblivion did. But hey, so what if it drags things out to a boringly long time frame for simple activities- it't all about the roleplay, right?

Maybe they could also animate changing clothes so when you want to put on a different outfit, the game shifts to third-person and you have to watch as you unbuckle your armor, remove it, and shimmy into the shirt you're putting on in its place.

I dont see why your being so anol about it.

perhaps tap A to pick it up.

and hold A to eat it on the spot.

would work well and is a simple system.

It's just unnecessary! Scripting every single plant and ingredient to work in this way is a waste of time.

Plus, if you are wanting immersion then you might aswell ask to animate every ingredient so you can gaze at your character eating... an apple.

Oh, also, the same time you spend holding the button and waiting for your character to eat you could go to the inventory, and click on the apple.

Sounds like a fair description of the existing method: select tree, apple is placed into your inventory, where you can then eat it. Works well and is a simple system.

How do you eat the apple off the tree if you do not touch it with your hands?

I disagree with this idea. Sure it would be pretty easy to just hold the button to eat the food but it is also easy to access your inventory. Or seeing how this would mainly be for roleplaying, just role play that you ate it. If you are doing it to gain the effect from the ingredient, then it makes a lot more sense to grab the ingredient and the 5-6 other ones that are usually clumped together and hotkey them to use in the field at will.

What is funny is that you could do this on PC in MW, because with your inventory system open you could drag things directly over to your character.

But that would mean something might revert to the way it was before, and I have heard plenty of times how we just need to "get with the times"

haha

I find this thread rather funny. I dont get the level of hostility being put at something so very simple and mundane. Is it unneeded? Yeah, prolly. Is it a tiny thing that may help someone with roleplaying? Yeah, prolly. Is it worth arguing over? Hell no.

Yea I guess you could actually do that ^^ Weird I never did tha actually. Anyway, I'll just restate what other reasonable people have already stated. Beth would just make a several options dialogue box which would make it soo [censored] annoying to loot anything(that could also be eaten) that I'd most likely completely stop looting that kind of stuff

We have to wait 6 days until we get info. Just trying to pass the time with silly threads/replies.

I hope not.

There were enough problems in Oblivion when people accidentally ate poison apples or chokeberries. I can see the same thing happening much more often if stuff doesn't go into inventory first.
