About Daggerfall's World

Is it true that the World of Daggerfall is so big that you'll basically get nowhere by walking? If yes, how exactly do you get around?

Yes. Fast travel is actually needed in Daggerfall.

yes, it has a land mass twice the size of Great Britian. a test was once done by a game reviewer. The started on one side and ran from one side to the other non stop. guess how long it took real time. Two weeks!

It has a similair fast travel feature to oblivion, however everywhere is already visable and able to travel to. Most of the blank land is just randomly generated so it not very interesting walking from place to place.

Not nearly as tiresome as it sounds. Like the others said, fast travel helps a great deal, meaning all the walking/riding you'll be doing is either within dungeons packed with foes or through crowded cities. Even then, you can mount a horse outdoors, making your speed pretty satisfactory.

You can also ride your cart around town, or buy a ship. Your run speed increases quickly enough through the game if you make sure to sleep enough you'll never have to worry about running everywhere.

Hehe. Good luck. I've searching for ages and still haven't found a copy under $30, and most are $45+.

2 Questions.

1. If I have the CD of the Game, do I need DOSBox to run it?

2. Is it's first Dungeon real tough like Arena's?

EDIT: Oh, and by the way, I don't care how hard it is to find. I specialize in hunting down Rare Games, so I'll hunt it down no matter how hard it is to find.

You should run it through DOSBox, stuff won't show up sometimes without it.

If you run away from most everything, no. If you attack everything in there to get some good loot and experience, you may have a tough time. Get the ebony dagger from the character creation if you think you want to fight it out.

Hold on a sec. If things are missing, then how did people run it when it first came out? I highly doubt DOSBox existed then. (It did though, didn't it?)

lol, yep. DOSBOX is just an emulator for later computers.

I'm actually scanvenging old computer parts from neighbors so I can build a DOS computer and run older games. Not just TES, but PAC games like QFG, KQ, SQ, and so forth.

PS-Aren't acronyms wonderful? Hehe.

If those acronyms mean what I think they mean, then your a fan of Quest For Glory, King's Quest, and Space Quest. Those games rock.

I used to love running through the wrothgarian Mountains. Leaping from peak to peak (high jump skill). Nothing compared to Morrowind where I could cast the megaleap spell which hurld myself across half the island (The jump was cool. Landing without invoking levitate was not suggested).

Sometimes I would just leave my house in Alikr' and Just run out and out into the desert. Good times.

Yes, but I liked QFG the best and KQ the least. But then again, TES is teh roxr!!!

Though sometimes I love QFG 1 and 4 as much Morrowind, Daggerfall, and Oblivion. Depends what phase I'm in (right now I'm in a TES lore phase, and less of a playing one)

Man, Space Quest was the reason I became a gamer, i think.

I still haven't gotten around to Daggerfall though... hmm.

Back on topic, here's a fan made map of Iliac Bay (the area where the game is taking place--Daggerfall itself is but a small kingdom there) to give you a a better idea of how large the world of Daggerfall is...look at the size of that.

Eh, that one's nice and spread out, but it doesn't show every location. http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y217/Jormungandr83/World_Map.png.

Shh, I thought we should take this one step at a time, wouldn't want to intimidate anyone ;).

(In case you're wondering, yes, those dots are mostly huge places)

The DOTS are huge places?! Dang! How did Bethesda fit it all onto one CD?! This game needs to be re-released so new age gamers can experience it!

EDIT: Do you fight in Daggerfall the same way you fight in Arena? By holding the mouse button and rotating the mouse?

They look rather generic, not nearly as unique as in Morrowind. Still...
