About to start for the first time. Any good mods for fixing

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 6:30 pm

Well, bought it in a Steam Sale, but found myself playing through all of Fallout 3 first. Thing is, I ended up with a few quests broken in Fallout 3, and I want to try and make my experience with New Vegas as smooth as possible. Any good mods that just fix things? I'm not really in the market for gameplay changes and new equipment, though.

I find http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=38326 to be a good resource in that angle. However, by this point in the patching, New Vegas is about 37 times as stable as Fallout 3 in my personal experience.

Make absolutely certain to get the Fallout Mod Manager, though. It just makes things easier.

Oh, and don't try to do everything on your first playthrough like you could Fallout 3. Pick a form of combat, roleplay a character, and just roll up another one once you finish the game (post-ending gameplay is gone).

I don't think that'll be necessary. I've got all the DLC, bringing the level cap to 50, meaning I could easily use all ten ranks of Intense Training and max out all my skills without even having to find all the books, to say nothing of all the perks I'll have access to. I can't max SPECIAL, but there's enough points to get all the perks.

And wow, that's a lot of fixes. Thank you very much!

By the way, I heard that the in-game descriptions and strategy guide imply that Agility was supposed to affect movement speed. Are there any mods that add that in?

The bugfix project you linked to is grossly outdate. http://www.ravenmodding.terminal47.net/?p=768

Which one of those do I download? I see four, but there's no mention of what they do.

Download the regular patch if you don't have all the DLC, the merged patch if you do have all the DLC, the sound/meshes/textures pack because you need sounds, meshes and textures and the Elijah and Joshua texture fix is optional.

Got all the DLC, so I downloaded the Merged. So, in other words, the Sound/Meshes/Textures isn't optional? Got it.

You're missing the point. FO:NV is about writing the saga of your character based on what he/she chooses to do. Since there are 27-some odd ending slides, most of which have five variations, there isn't much point to trying to do everything in one playthrough. *shrugs* Do what you feel is right.

Oh, and Frosty: Thanks. And I was about to download the one I linked to.

You know, in Fallout 3, you could only choose one outcome for any given quest, too. I'm not entirely sure what you're getting at. I know I can't give Rex every brain.

I use the http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=44204# because the Raven one would give me save games that it just wouldn't load, while the other one would load them. If Raven works for you, stick with it. Otherwise give the other one a whirl.

In Fallout 3, the Brotherhood of Steel always wins no matter who you support. In New Vegas, you choose the winning faction. And most of those quests? They get their own ending slides.

What I'm getting at is that you miss a lot of the game if you try to be everything.

Warning : I have both of the mods listed in this thread, you want to create additional save files for the following :

-Before talking to contreras at the mccarran supply shack (his quest line is extremely buggy)

-Before starting the "Save president kimball" quest (also very buggy)

Thank you.

Thus far, it's running surprisingly well. I haven't gotten a single radio bug or CTD like I did in Fallout 3.

If you have 4GB+ RAM in your PC I also suggest using the http://nvse.silverlock.org/beta/fnv4gb_nvse.zip it allows it to use more RAM and has significantly reduces crashes for me to pretty much none.
