About to start new game with VH + HC mode

Post » Thu Dec 15, 2011 1:53 pm

Hey guys

Just downloaded GRA and thought it'd be good to have 1 last long play through, but this time have it on Very Hard difficulty with hardcoe mod. Usually I play on Normal without hardcoe mode so is there anything I should know? What kinda guns I should look at, any hints/tips so i don't die constantly? Builds? Anything to keep my alive ^.^

Thanks

When you do DM your meters are frozen, but don't sleep in any of the beds, if you do, you'll reset them and have to maintain them.

Classic Pack would be invaluable.

When you see a landmine, to disarm it just jump up and down on it.

Sodas dehydrate you.

You're insane to take on Deathclaws head on in VH HC mode.

I never said it disarms it in a way you'd like. :spotted owl:

Implant GRX - this will save you during Dead Money and anywhere that you have to fight high level enemies

Roughin' it! bedroll kit - you will never have to worry about the sleep meter again

As for weapons, I would avoid melee/unarmed because they don't work out too well when you have to fight things like deathclaws. Sleepytime and a silenced sniper rifle are good choices, because the longer you stay undetected, the less likely you are to die.

Hydra - it is weightless and it heals crippled limbs

Purified Water - Try to always have a few bottles on hand, the water meter goes up the fastest

Desert Salad - Excellent food item that will restore most of your food meter and will also help to lower your water meter

As far as skills go, I would say the survival skill is the most important, other than that pick at least one combat skill and the rest is up to you.

Why's Survival important?

It's not that important really, but if you play it right it's way better to craft food stuff with Survival as it earns more health and can stack it's healing effects as opposed to Stimpaks which cannot stack.

He's referring to something that the player can say to Moira Brown in FO:3 while doing the Wasteland survival guide. "It's easy. Just jump up and down on it. You go first."

And I'd like to add that survival can help you create some really useful lightweight food items, such as desert salad and trail mix.

Dead Wind Cavern has a bunch of useful items inside that will help you defend yourself until you get to NoVac. There's only a few Molerats inside.

You sir, are an [censored]. Dead Wind Cavern contains extremely good loot, but It's populated by the Legendary Deathclaw and a whole mess of other DCs. My advice? Avoid.

Plus, the loot is basically useless until you have completed one of two very important quests and have a lot of points in one weapon skill.

Focus on one weapon skill, probably guns, as that's the easiest to use. Specialize your character around one weapon, like the AMR, CZ57, or .45 Auto SMG. Put points in sneak, and don't be afraid to run like hell.

Oh and the perks, my god the Survival perks are awesome! Frankly I pick Survival when I can just cause of them.

Very Hard / hardcoe is extremely easy once you get the hang of it. If you want a real challenge, do heavy roleplaying that gimps yourself or play normal/hardcoe and add mods that significantly increase the difficulty of the game.

The advantage of very hard? Enemies will do more realistic damage against you. The disadvantages? It turns many weapons into wet noodles, since you are doing half the damage.

as person above has stated, whenu get to the DS unless ur EH ur gonna feel like a 12 year old taking on a man as far as the Dmg u do goes. If ur on the PC i would recommend gettign the mod that takes the enemy markers off and PN so u can stay same health thru out entire game and plus it lets u turn off the healing from food =]. As stated Survival, its good to get it up to at least 50 at lvl 4 and after i say 65 be the max to put into it. also traits do logains loophole, that way u aint to much demigod mode when u hit 30. get melee upt o 50 bc best to kill pesky animals with a knife or whatnot, get Guns or/and EH up to 100, sneak up to at least 75. Shotgun knotchdowns are invaluable bc like person stated ur gonna feel liek ur hitting with a wet noodle compared to what u usually do. but even to all this, Vanilla game will be easymode at lvl 30, its the DLCs that gonna kick ur @#$ =]

Agreed! My favorite playthroughs are always the ones where I have a survivalist character (like Tycho)

Travel Light, Animal Friend, and Old World Gourmet are some of the best perks in the game if you ask me
