about that 1st pinned topic, "Please Read"

Post » Tue Nov 10, 2009 7:56 pm

In the first pinned post up at the top titled, "Please read: from the teams at Obsidian and Bethesda", there is one tiny mention of a glitch that makes the game unplayable for 360 players. Here it is,

"On consoles, we are aware that a small group of 360 users are seeing a DLC warning which is preventing you from loading save games. We are absolutely looking into this bug now, along with other reports of save game corruption. It is our highest priority right now that we find out what is causing it. In the meantime, we recommend you save often, and revert to an older save if this occurs."

Could we please get an official update about this? It was posted a couple days ago and either they were downplaying it or things have changed.

It is not a small group it is every 360 user. Saving often is useless when it corrupts every save even if you were to create 10 save files or more. You cannot revert to older saves, once again every save gives you a bogus DLC content missing message when you try to load it.

On the 360 you can play for I'd say an average of 10-15 hours (based on my own experience and the many many posts I've read about this issue), at which point all save files give you a message about missing DLC and are unable to be loaded. Your only option is to start over and have it happen again after another 10-15 hours, or stop playing all together. There is no fix and no official word since that quote from a couple days ago. Please tell us what is going on, even if you just say we're still working on it.

same here, i just stopped playing altogether which is really frustrating considering i pre-ordered and got the midnight release. The game is not worth playing any more on Xbox360, no matter what combination i tried (even tried getting rid of DLC), i cannot load saved games.

Please give us some answers!

He means the free DLC that comes with it. The Classic Pack. I wonder if the DLC actually has something to do with the problem, or if it's something else that causes the bogus "missing DLC" message when you attempt to load a game after all your files have been corrupted.

yes i mean the classic pack that came with the pre-ordered bonus, you get a popup that says 'dlc is no longer available on device, etc' and it just reboots the game if you select ' proceed anyways'.

question..is there a way to un-install the dlc/classic pack without having to re-install the whole game and lose your save points?

I've read on these forums that it happens to people without the classic pack as well or any DLCs so who knows.

At this point without a patch or an update and its has been a couple days some of us a couple of days or more because theres so many bugs Bethesda needs to do some serious PR to let us know what they're doing and if we're gonna get compensated through some free DLC or something.

There are the four injected preorder packs.

I've a hunch about why the saves won't load: Normally, each item has a FormID whose first characters indicate load order of the plugin it's native to...

[00] FalloutNV.ESM
[01] ClassicPack.ESM

...so a new item, say PreordVaultCanteen "Vault 13 Canteen" [MISC:001735D2], would normally have the FormID '011735D2'. I suspect the preorders are to be merged into the GOTY/all inclusive FalloutNV.ESM in the future. Anyhow, if a 'missing content' warning appears when loading a save where you have that canteen, that means ClassicPack.ESM isn't loading, yet the [00] object in the player's inventory can't be resolved and might not have been removed from the save after the force-load as the engine would read it as a FalloutNV.ESM native form. A PC user had this happen http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1125653-disabaling-dlc-does-not-stop-items-from-being-added/ which leads me to believe the Xbox handles modules and saves in a similar manner? If there were null copies or placeholders of the injected forms within FalloutNV.ESM, the save should load.

I've read on these forums that it happens to people without the classic pack as well or any DLCs so who knows.
That all four are injected as described above is, most likely, why they all exhibit this behavior.

i agree..i always tell myself 'never be the first to buy something brand new' and i should have followed my own rules, pre-ordering and getting the game the minute it came out has been so frustrating, ive spent more time replaying working saves and backtracking than actually enjoying the game. Sad...

Yah, its all in the same warning, "DLC Unavailable, Content Missing, Hardrive is no longer Available." goes like that. I am sure the saves work similar and I Understand what you said on the previous post.. but I am thinking it is tied to something else in game, has to be some sort of content, but it's happening to everyone in every part of the game weather its 6 hrs into it or 24 hrs, weather they have the DLCs or don't, or completed a certain quest or not even gotten close to that quest giver so it's making it hard for everyone to single out a sole reason which I am guessing why it's taking so long to patch it..because i am willing to give the benefit of the doubt and say this seems like something that they would rush to patch about 12.01 a.m. Oct. 19th

Propain is right. The missing content message does indeed pop up. It's happened to me, too. With and WITHOUT the DLC. But, for me, I have noticed that the issue occurs AFTER I have completed "Come Fly With Me" and then head to Boulder city. That is where my save game/missing DLC bug would happen. But, on my 2nd play through, I bypassed that mission altogether and so far *knocks on wood a 100 times* everything has been smooth sailing. So, as far as I am concerned, the "Come Fly With Me" quest IS the bug initiator. I am on the strip now, and "knocks on wood 300 times* every thing has been fine.

But, I will not touch "Come fly with me" until a proper patch is fixed and I am staying away from the strip a bit, too.

Just registered because i'm having the same problems with the corrupted save file glitch, ive read that most people got it from the come fly with me quest but earlier my save files became corrupted from the quest that has you go into vault 11 to find the cause of the radiation, as of now i can no longer load any of my save files :(, im so tempted to take the game back and put it down to a bad purchase but ill hold out until tomorrow in the hope that a patch is released, so just a heads up avoiding come fly with me will not prevent save file corrupting from what ive read and experienced it can happen at anytime.

Actually, this seems to be unique to people with DLC. I don't have any DLC and I also got that message regarding a DLC file being missing. However, I told it to proceed loading the game without the DLC files (which I never had anyway) and it ran 100% no problem.

It's only people that actually have the DLC that seem to get the corrupted saves as a result.

[Edit]: Also, the one time I had a crash was after I'd cleared my cache. Similarly, this issue that 'almost' happened to me also occurred right after I'd cleared my cache. So I'm guessing it's a temporary file of some sort that produces the problem.

I am sure it does happen in other places, but for right now "Come Fly With Me" started the problem for me and I have not even BEEN to ANY of the places you all are talking about. My route was "GoodSprings", "Prim", "Mojave Post", "Nipton", "Novac". When I did the "Come Fly With Me" mission and went to "Boulder City" that was when ALL of the saves, after completing "Come Fly With Me", would become corrupt. So, as far as I am concerned, "Come Fly With Me" is the first initial culprit. Then comes the other places people are speaking of.

I do not have the DLC, yet i still have the save file corruption, and when i try and re-load a save file i get the missing DLC message cannot load certain objects etc and then it asks me to choose another storage device, after that it takes me back to the main menu, i don' think it matters whether you have the DLC or not, there's parts of the game that can cause save file corruption, for me me it was the vault 11 quest, for others come fly with me.

Ah, my bad then. Has anybody tried clearing the storage device's cache and trying again? I can't imagine it would actually help...

Good thing I haven't done either of those quests yet then...maybe I should stay away from them for the time being.

Cleaning the cache does nothing, and if you try and reload other save files they all become corrupted, i was 13 hours into the game earlier and the game crashed, when i went to reload it i got the game file is corrupted message, i reloaded a previous save at 9 hours in, got back to where i was after another 4 hours of playtime only to have the game crash and got the same corrupted save file message, reloaded all my other saves and each one has become corrupted, im pissed because i deleted some of the corrupted saves to go back to older save points but they have all got corrupted too rofl, you have to laugh really :P, hope theres a fix soon though, otherwise im getting my money back.

I have done that a 100 times. It the nutshell, it doesn't work. The only success I had was a save that I had when I STARTED "Come Fly With Me" and that save worked because I had not completed the quest. But, if you complete that quest, that is when every save after that will be corrupt. So, with or without DLC, you will get this is you finish the "Come Fly With Me" quest. As I said in another thread, I have bypassed that quest. I didn't start it at all. With the help of a fellow member on this forum, he found away to avoid that whole quest altogether, and so far *knocks on wood* it has been smooth sailing for me so far.

To bypass "Come Fly With Me" quest:

1: Head to Novac and DON'T SPEAK TO ANYONE.

2: Head to Vargas's hotel room. DON'T SPEAK TO HIM!

3: Go to his computer, read the note.

4: The road to Boulder City will begin.

5: But, if you speak to ANYONE in that town about the ghoul problem and that quest title pops up on your screen, DON'T DO THE QUEST! DON'T DO IT!! Ignore it and move on!

6: But, you can speak to other people in town. Just don't select any conversation selections that speak on the Ghoul problem.

Sweetheart, you totally misread my post. I was in no way saying "Lucky for me" that I had a save. That was NOT a reprimand or a chastise to those who didn't have a save before the quest. I was explaining a situation that I was in the VERY FIRST time I discovered this issue a couple of days ago. BEFORE I even knew of cache clearing on an xbox existed. BEFORE I even knew that you can install a game on your xbox. BEFORE I knew that the saves were indeed corrupt due to an in game bug. BEFORE I even knew it was a bug! BEFORE I even knew about ANY OF THE THE SOLUTIONS to these problems in which I have NEVER encountered in game BEFORE. Let me quote myself: "I have done that a 100 times. It the nutshell, it doesn't work. The only success I had was a save that I had when I STARTED "Come Fly With Me" and that save worked because I had not completed the quest."

That save JUST SO HAPPEN TO BE THERE and it worked after cache clearing and game installing. Of course, that process did not make the save work. The save worked because I had not finished the quest. This was waaaaaay before I even came on these boards and found out that other people were having the same issues. This waaaaaaaaaay before I found out that "Come Fly With Me" was the initiator of the bug. Do you understand, now, what I was trying to say?

And thanks to a fellow member on these boards, we now know how to skip that whole quest until further notice. That's all I was trying to say. You don't have to start over again. I wasn't telling you to. I started over again, didn't want to, but I did. That was my decision, but you are in titled to do whatever you want with your game. I was just passing along information. Forgive me that. Just trying to help.

Until someone posts here who has played more than 15 hours and not experienced this game breaking glitch, I don't believe it is tied to any specific quest. No one makes it that far regardless of which quests they've avoided.

Pierce, everyone is experience bugs differently in their games. For some of us, some quests do cause the save glitch to happen. For ME, the quest "Come Fly With Me" started my problems. When I left that quest alone, I haven't had any issues, *knocks on wood*. None at all. If you have experienced other issues that were not tied to quests, that good for you. I am glad that you are not suffering like the rest of us and if you made it that far with no issues, that that is even more great! You can believe whatever it is you want at this point. You have a right to do that. But, don't try to make all us who have experienced these issue feel like a bunch of liars when we all know what happened to us in OUR games. I will stand by what I and others have said when it comes to that specific quest or areas in the game that cause issues.
