About the Economy in Skyrim

Post » Sat Jun 18, 2011 9:18 pm

Well you all know that in Skyrim the player will have a small impact on the Economy in every city, in one interview Tod said that you can sabotage a lumber mill in one city and cripple the economy there, so i find it strange how will that work i mean, if you can sabotage it would be logical there is some kind of option to increased the prosperity in the city but when he was asked that question he said " we are taking this lightly now" he didn't mention at all that you can help some city Economy, but what i find it dumb is why you wana sabotage and cripple the economy of the city and with that done, the prices would probably increase, so anyone have any idea how that might work cuz crippling the Economy of the city is for me probably one of the stupidest thing you can do unless there is some kind of politics involved where there is a civil war and you have to take a town side, and go to war with the enemy town c and if you cripple the economy of the town the soldiers there will have worse armor than the town ur helping or smt to that effect.

Usually how this works is you'd cripple their lumbermill, and then when prices go up there, import items from another town that has cheap lumber.

Hope that's how it works.

I just wonder how deep/far gamesas is going to let you go with the ruin/improve a town's economy? If I choose to ruin it, can I reduce the villagers to paupers? Could I take a small village and help them build their economy to the point that they have the wealth of a small city?

How far do you think that they'll let this go?

I think rather than making the prices go way up, they just sell worse items. But yeah, I'm pretty sure it does impact prices levels. And the reason you would do it is because it is fun to see the environment react to your (perhaps evil) character. You can always buy your stuff at the town with the best economy, assuming the 'global' economy doesn't impact prices that much.

@ Uriel: I'm guessing it is just a few quest related checks that move prices and seller item lists from a level of 1-5 or something in each major city. I heard they use "supply/demand" but I doubt they actually measure this with the real supply in an area.

As long as I can open up a store and have a static NPC run it for me so I have some cash when I get back from destroying everything in sight I'll be fine.

Edit: (spelling)

This.

its nothing overly major, and from the given the availible information not all the cracked up to be, I mean why would I want to screw over a lumber mill just so arrows become hard to by ...for me? thats what Im getting.

if it was something significant like the town runs low on money, food is hard or the guard power gets low or even the entire town is abandoned then yeah epic.

but havent heard anytihng like that so far.

If its that the only way how it works than everyone will be a millionaire :D i can just go buy like 5 weapons at cheapest price and just fast travel to the city i sabotage since the prices will be high there so i would sell i mean its a bit weird i hope there is more into it

I think people are reading too much into this. I doubt it's a game "feature"... probably just a small aside - something that is possible, but not implemented to a large degree. I can't see screwing around with a town's economy as its own minigame. Yes, destroy a lumbermil and the price of wood goes up, but I'd be shocked if it goes any deeper than that. It might open up a new questline or something.

Todd doesn't have 13 developers working on the big "Village Economy" project...

Sabatoging the mill sounds more like somethign that's quest related that's part of a bigger plot....not so much as my buying and selling affect the economy.

I destroy the mill because I'm the competition....I destroy the mill because it's ripping apart a sacred land....destroy the mill because I want the river to flow through a dragon's cave....the side effect is affacting the economy. It's not me manipulating the whole macro system.
