About the new "over 100" legendary skills.

Post » Thu Apr 18, 2013 6:10 pm

I dont have skyrim installed now so i can not test it out for myself, so i wanted to ask you folks how does this legendary skills mechanics actually work?

When we go over a 100 points (legendary) in a certain skill(with all/some the perks in it taken), do all the perks become inactive (unlearned) and we are essentially a "noob" in that skill?

Does the skill reset from a 100 to only 15 also affect how well we do that skill, like will my "15 skill legendary" Sneak be better (or worse) than "100 skill ordinary" Sneak?

What kind of effect is there if we pick the same perks again in the same skill tree (after we get legendary)?

Thanks for reading and helping me out :)

Here's what's happening:

1) I had One-Handed at 100. I can 1-shot almost anything with my sword.
2) I make One-Handed Legendary. Boom, One-Handed is now at 15, all my perks refunded.
3) I can't 1-shot enemies anymore.

Take what you will from this fact.

It's just so you can get all perks and no longer have the 81 1/2 level cap.

So I guess you have to be mindful of what skills you want to go legendary with.

I play as a sorceress that depends on destruction. I was 100 in it. I play every day for about 6 to 8 hours a day. It took me almost 3 weeks to get that destruction to 100. I made it legendary. In 3 seconds, I got back the 16 perks that I spent in it, and it went from 100 to 15. I thought, OMG. What have I done. I did make a save before doing it. With the magicka I had, at level 44, I was still able to cast all the higher level spells, including the master ones.

After 6 hours of play, I was back up to 64 in destruction, used 3 of those perks points I got back in restoration, and still have 13 extra perk points left.

Once you make a skill legendary, you are starting that skill over, plus you get back any perk points you put into it. You will level that skill up a heck of a lot faster than you did the first time. I would not do alchemy or enchanting on legendary, for it was too hard to get those final points.

for the record you need to be level 251/252 to have all perks.

i went from 76 to 252 in just about 2 hours using the resto loop and was able to get alchemy from 15 to 100 in a single potion.

So going from ordinary 100 skill to legendary 15 skill (in, say, Destruction magic) actually makes your spells weaker due to lower skill (not counting the lack of perks)?

Sounds like a really weird approach, if the above is true?

No, you are not a noob in that skill, you are a legend in that skill and you are totally taking the whole thing out of context.

Also, what the hell are you talking about?
I asked specific gameplay questions and how do new mechanics affect our characters, and you are talking about being "a legend" and taking things out of context??

You keep your perks dude, just that you get new ones upon leveling up and you kinda were over thinking the legendary thing. You don't get any new effects by putting the perks back on the tree you just made legendary.

Answer:

Your 'legendaried' skill drops to 15. You have no perks in that skill, although you then get whatever perk points you had in it available to you to use, or save, how you like.

The only reason you get to make skills legendary is to remove the Level 81 level cap, which means it is more of an awkward game mechanic, than a feature. They could have called it 'numpty skilling', which would probably have been a more accurate title (and description).

As far as resetting combat skills go, you are definitely screwed a bit until you get your perks back...unless your character has the benefits of maxed production skills (smithing/enchanting/alchemy). In which case your gear would still maintain the highest level of upgrades, even if your skill levels were low.

I posted some pics in a thread when the patch went live for consoles. By now I would assume most players know that the experience gained from alchemy is dependent on the monetary value of the potion created, so...well, just look at the pics...

Your spells are not really weaker, cause you can still cast high level spells, but they do use more magicka. Your magicka and health and stamina stay the same. You are actually starting that tree all over again as far as the perks are concerned, and you will level it up alot faster. The only problem I had was I had to wait about 15/20 minutes before I could dual cast. Hope that made sense.

I was doing the same thing! I went from like level 10-&--#62;90 in 5 minutes, it was insane. I Imagine it takes multiple resets just for 1 level up at 100+ and 200+ though?

Also selling 1 of those million gold potions took my speech from 20->100.

On topic: I never liked the whole "Legendary" idea any way. It feels too much like "Prestiging" in CoD.

I have yet to really use the new Legendary feature but I think it takes a little planning. You'll invest in a skill tree on your way to 100, then mark it Legendary and get the perks backs to re-allocate among other trees or even the same tree all over again. I'm leery of stripping an essential tree (like Destruction for a mage, or One-Handed for a warrior) so I'm looking at secondary trees (for example, Enchanting, Alchemy, Archery, or Restoration). Even though these secondary skills won't hit 100 as fast as the primary skills, you won't be as crippled when you strip them down. You only need so many enchanted items or so many super powerful potions anyway. That's my plan but I have yet to execute it completely. I don't really understand how people are almost instantly building their skills from 15 back to 100. I'm on the Xbox 360 so no command line or mod tricks for me.

Kami12, if they are using alchemy and speech, it's quite simple:

Make a bunch of your uber-potions (you don't unlearn what you already know, the potions are just not as uber as they used to be)...there's 100 in Alchemy.

Go to a vendor, and sell them. There's 100 in Speech.

I only used it on my destruction, and I got to raise my skiles back up in about 14 hours instead of 3 weeks, and I got to put alot more into the magicka pool. When I cast a master spell, I no longer use all of the magicka, only a little more than half of it. It is said that you can make a tree legendary as many times as you want to. Do not know if I want to go that route. I play on the xbox, and the first time that I did it, I was really supprised how fast the destruction leveled back up again.
