About the "skip the starting zone"

Post » Mon Mar 17, 2014 2:43 pm

Hey all,

a poll to check what's your opinion about these changes.

What I think is not important, it's just that this makes the buzz on the forums and community portals.

So, if you like the changes or if you don't like them, please vote for us all to know.

Have a very short but good fortnight peeps and prepare yourselves.

I like the starter islands, but found it was easy enough to take a boat to the one in my realm.

Would like the choice to start there, if possible.

Kind of tough options to answer. Basically I think after the tutorial they should just keep it simple and give 2 options. "Go to starter island" or "Skip starter island" or something along those lines. If it has to come out somewhere then start island with an immediate quest with big bold letters saying it skips the quests on that island. :)

They can just add some other weapons on the tables and let you start on the beginner island with the option to skip and go straight to the city...

I dont really like how the made the skip part in the reverse order. It feel wrong having to go back. And the beginner island is really good, you get to like level 6 with one extra skill.

No on all, I do not care for the choice of weapon in the beginning, I will have that weapons for 1hour max.

Story line is not broken, just messed up a little at the moment. Make less sense yes, maybe we were sent to the bigger city for better medical treatment and now that we are okey we have to go to that island because it is being threatened by something.

I would never want to skip the starter island, well maybe after 10th character ^^

I would rather start on the starting island then on main land.

The only thing I could be definitive about was the missing weapon racks because starting with just a sword svcksballs.

The other stuff I put no opinion on because it depends on if they scrapped it altogether or they just moved it so that you do those quests later on. I hope that we do get to go back to the island at some point but it honestly doesn't matter to me whether I actually start on the island or in Daggerfall.

They just need to have an NPC come up and tell you about the starting islands as soon as you arrive on the mainland.

I knew it was changed and even knew that I had to look for someone around the docks, but I still couldn't find them, had to ask in zone chat. Ended up being at the wrong docks since there are two in Daggerfall.

I like that they've made it optional, it just needs to be more clear what exactly your options are.

Yeah... I think Zenimax's solution to the problem left everyone, even those who wanted it changed in the first place, scratching their heads. It doesn't make sense to drop us in the city and then go BACK to the starter islands. A much easier fix would have been to just drop people off in the original location and allow them to take a boat back and forth from the starting islands as they please.

That's all anyone was ever asking for.

Should just start on the island and have an NPC flat-out tell you that you can sail to the mainland right away.

Past TESO games do allow you to go off on your own, but they always pointed you to the main quest first, wander option second. Game should place you on the islands to start, if player decides to leave they do so by their own hand.

Felt kind of stupid, stepping out of a house in prison garb, seeing all kinds of higher-up folks on mounts and such.

Clean clothes can not be to much to ask for.

I have no idea why they didn't just do the starter island skip the same way they do it for cold harbour.

A simple pop up box asking if you want to skip the starter island or not would have fixed this nicely. No need to redesign the story and no need to record new dialogue. All the time, effort and money wasted there could be spent on story and dialogue for another quest.

I had an AD lvl 9 so wanted to see what the starting area for DC was like. So made a new character for DC But was shocked that I was plonked on the main city area, that was a terrible idea.

I really dislike that it does not give you a choice and automatically makes you skip the starting island. Especially since I have not had a character experience Stros m'kai yet.

I then managed to find the boat and return, but it felt confusing and disjointed, and it ruined any immersion for me.

They need to at least give you the choice of allowing you to skip or not and I really hate not being given a choice. This to me seemed like a rushed and stupid decision without any thought and seemed to break the game.

Yep. Spent the first twenty minutes learning just where the starter island for that realm was, and then finding a way to get to it.

Problem is you cant really skip the starter island on your first play through, if you do then the starter quests in your town end up being 4 to 5 levels higher than you, and you just came out of cold harbour which means there is a good chance you don't have the weapon you want to use yet and you're half naked gear wise. I thought the game was broken difficulty wise till a friend directed me to the starter island, i had to relog because the cat lady that sends me there wasn't even loaded into my game and there was an arrow there but no one to talk to.

If you're rolling an alt then its fine to skip the island because you can craft a full set of gear and a wep and bank roll your food buffs etc, but as a first timer I was thrown for a loop landing in a town with no direction and quest mobs 3 levels higher than me chunking 75% of my hp because im a tank character wearing a bathrobe with no shoes/helm/shoulders/belt.

The people that were complaining that the tutorial was boring (and hence the changes) aren't true gamers, and most likely open beta and F2P trolls (if you wanted to try ESO in the beta weekends, you could, if you put forth even a modest effort ... many did so just to talk trash in chat and on forums) .

Even twitchers with short attention spans that only play the FPS game of the month play the same levels over and over and over, fraggin' noobs.

As for we old-school Elder Scrolls players, we're used to making hundreds of characters and running them through the game intro.

True.

But I welcome people with different opinions, also in this thread.

Also, don't forget Vraesh that there are also professional troll teams hired to disrupt others games (products) and forums.

Business is a jungle.

Edit: oops this can look a bit, how do you say in english? patronizing? it was not my intention, just to make it clear, sorry about that :/

Here's how I think the starter island should be handled...

Escape from Coldharbour tutorial

Drop the player on the starter island with the first quest giver NPC offering their quests as usual for the island and have them offer transport to the mainland as an option to skip the island all together.

This way player has choice to do the starting island or skip ahead rather than starting on the mainland and having to find the NPC who gives you a quest to backtrack to the starting island. I think this makes more sense and those who feel the starter islands aren't big enough can just skip ahead, those who wish to experience the starter islands can stay and quest. Returning to the initial quest giver NPC at any point should give the option to skip ahead for those who play some of the island quest but wish they had moved on.

the problem here in my opinion is, that in order for people to skip the starter island, they had to make content after the first major town easier

i went back to the starter island first, and when i came back to daggerfall, i was level 8 and faced with level 3-4 quests which was not funny at all

Yep they indeed broke the main cities content to appease those stupid "reviewers".

I don't mind if people want to skip CD, however no reward should be given.

I was fine with hwo it was originally, I just dont want to HAVE to do the questline to get off the starter island if I dont want to. Yes its very selfish and unlogical, it doesnt matter.

yeah as it is now i honestly feel they have set themselves backwards the voice overs and dialogues make no sense now their best bet is to put things back the way they were as far as the starter island goes
