So, about those reinforcements...

Post » Tue Feb 08, 2011 5:39 pm

Trying to complete the Bitter Springs quest "No, Not Much" but have recently learned it's bugged if you failed the other glitched quest, "I Put A Spell On You" and let the Monorail be destroyed.

Is there a workaround that'll force Hsu to agree to the reinforcements for Bitter Springs, or possibly a console command I can use? The Monorail is already toast (about fifteen hours ago so my save is ancient and I'm not going back that far) and my reputation with NCR is currently "Accepted". If Hsu gives me that line about why on earth he should listen to my troop deployment suggestions, I feel I'm gonna have to relieve him of his command in an extremely violent way. <_<

No way? The game's broken!??!

I feel your pain, but there aren't really any options aside from simply not doing it.

There are VERY particular ways you need to accomplish everything in order to not break quest lines, if you step out of bounds you need to start over.

My suggestion? Just finish this play through and chalk it up to knowing how to do it next time.

Not every quest is meant to be complete-able.

The Base have suffered a catastrophic failure in security, and you expect Colonel Hsu to sent more troops out of the base to safe guard a refugee camp? instead of tightening up security on his base which supervises New Vegas?

Then again, it can be a programming error, but I get the feeling it is not.

Yeah, good advice. :) It obviously needs fixing in a patch, though. Kinda reminds me of KotOR II, heh ha.

Not every quest is meant to be complete-able.

This is deffo an error. I completed the 1st Recon squad missions centred around Betsy, did the Cantreras quests to a point, then turned him in before I had to kill the Ranger, so solved the thieving issue. Relieved Anders from his Vault mission and sent him packing back to base, and completed the Fiend bounties meaning 1st Recon squad are no longer needed there, and also completed the Centurion interrogation, the radiation problem, uncovered the traitor, and directed power from HELIOS to McCarren.

So essentially I've done everything that needs to be done in order for the base leader to agree to the redeployment to Bitter Springs. Also have a good relationship with NCR. Hsu, though, just talks to me like I'm r e t a r d e d. It's annoying because I really wanna clean sweep as many quests as possible on my first play-through. Now one quest is gonna hang over me like a smelly old tramp for the rest of the game. *harrumph* <_<

Edit - Ah well, cheers guys. ^_^

Except you let the mono-rail blow up.

It might be a bug, or it might just be intentional.

It makes sense either way.

[Edit]

And the bug for I put a spell on you is not the Bug most people think it is.

The mission objective specifically said "Eves Drop on the Conversation"

If you killed him without him talking about the mono-rail bomb, you cannot save the monorail.

The bug is that if you didn't hear the conversation you can still search the mono-rail and find the bomb. It simply shouldn't be there like a lot of quest related things and the rail just mysteriously explode.

You did everything you'd need to do, except the one thing that would make the commander of a base the most leery, by far, of sending any of his troops away. It's quite logical that he would not accept your suggestion.

Having saved the monorail, I don't know precisely what he says to you. If he's just not sending troops, I think that's a mistake by the writers; he should say that he can't afford to lose any troops given what happened to the monorail, so you know the cause and effect of the situation. But it's still a very sensible mindset for him to hold.

I did the same thing , did all the quests I thought I could find for the NCR at McCarren (see spoiler)
Spoiler
until I found the one for the First Recon in the camp right in front of the Airport terminal (the one for the tough chick) you need to talk to her commanding officer and you see what happened to her and how to help her , for the"No, Not Much" quest to sum up you MUST be "Liked" not just accepted by the NCR if the monorail gets blown up.

I thought mine was broke too , it's not , after I did this and was liked and the quest opened up.

It's bugged, and the two quests are linked, one bugging the other, making "No, Not Much" something you can't complete if you did "I Put A Spell On You" the way I did. Otherwise, if it was scripted and intentional, I'd get a Quest Failure notification for "No, Not Much". Hsu would never give the reinforcements, and so the quest is a failure. I'd return to Bitter Springs and my dialogue options would be along the lines of, "I tried, I'm sorry I couldn't do better." I don't even think I got a Quest Failure notification for "I Put A Spell On You". Not sure. I got paid and got XP, so it was a Quest Completed.

He just says, "What on earth makes you think you can make troop deployment suggestions to me?"

I did the same thing , did all the quests I thought I could find for the NCR at McCarren (see spoiler) [spoiler]until I found the one for the First Recon in the camp right in front of the Airport terminal (the one for the tough chick) you need to talk to her commanding officer and you see what happened to her and how to help her.

I said above I completed the 1st Recon quests concerning Betsy. :) I think that's her name. Tough lisbian chick. I took great pleasure in executing her rapist. :D

Being "Accepted" was enough for the other camps where I'd completed all the missions around the area. Also I asked for reinforcements when I was "Liked" earlier, but I picked up Cass as a companion and took the violent route in her quests, when I killed McLafferty my reputation with NCR was damaged and I dropped down to "Shunned" and worked back up to "Accepted." S'not the relationship or reputation, it's the way I completed the previous quest that's effecting this one.

- Cheers for the responses guys. :vaultboy:
