About using Fallout content for educational purposes.

Post » Thu Oct 25, 2012 10:46 am

I didn't know if I should put this here, it's my first post. Well, then again, this is related to the Fallout universe as a whole, so here it goes:

For a school-work project, I was required to create a poster related to business. I basically suggested that business in a post-apocalyptic world would result in all the empirical economical principles to remain but the theoretical ones would disappear in the aftermath of the tragedy. I used many fallout images and 'brands' (like the nuka-cola) in my poster.

Basically, I am using Bethesda's IP for educational purposes only, but I am required to know for certain Bethesda does not object this (to have actual proof). I believe they do not as long as one does not profit from it, hence all those fan-sites. I'd just like to be pointed to the place where it says using the IP for non-profit purposes is permitted. If it is.

It's vital that I get this (or get pointed in the right direction), lest I fail at this task.

Thanks in advance!

I can't speak for Bethesda, but they seem to be somewhat tolerant of fans using their material for non-profit reasons. Have you ever heard of Nuka Break? Or the up coming Lanius film? They are both fan films using Fallout logos such as Nuka cola, and characters such as Lanius and the mysterious stranger. They are both non-profit and I believe some members of Bethesda claim to actually like Nuka Break. I doubt they'd sue over you using their content for a school assignment.

Once again, I can't speak for Bethesda so you may not want to take my word for it. I'm just going off of what I've seen from other experiences.

Also a question.. Why are you using Nuka-Cola as an example of business after the world ended? Nuka-Cola was a pre-war thing. Anyways since you aren't making money off it I think Bethesda would be ok with it.

But I will ask a mod for you.

Nuka-cola is simply something that seems the result of innovation; there's nukes, why not NukA-Cola? I, of course, have to give more background but it makes sense in the context of the assignment.

Oh, it's not about a lawsuit. It's actually part of the assignment to hand proof that Bethesda allows their content to be used in this manner.

Well, it's not the Nuka-Cola but the caps as an example. No doubt a discussion of business models in a post-apocalyptic environment would come across a monetary system.

It's pretty sure it's fine, since you are just doing a report/not for profit type of thing, but I would suggest you PM Gstaff or Nick Breckon if you need actual Bethesda confirmation/ok :)
