I just want to find myself a .357 or a .44 and go into the enemies while saying ''This is the greatest handgun ever made...six shots, enough to kill anything that moves...''

Even better if they had akimbos...''Twelve shots...this time I've got twelve shots...''
NV really had a good selection of weapons. I'm hoping this matches or beats that and doesn't rely on us to make up the difference. I don't wanna see a reduction in variation simply because we can mod them into something else. They said 70 base weapons right? Does that sound about what NV had?
Unless there are weapons that aren't built out of mods, I'd be kind of surprised if "iconic" / recognizable real-world guns show up. Like, how hard would it be to have the parts for an M1911 fit into the mod system?
(can you picture putting the 1911 barrel or handle on a revolver core, or the semi-auto action with a snub-.38 barrel and a Colt Peacemaker grip?)
But I guess we'll see, won't we?
Not going to lie, I want my "All American" but hey... there are tons of gun mods for FO3 & FONV so I'm not worried.
I don't really follow what you're saying. I read this as you not thinking recognizable weapons are in game? And there are plenty of weapons that aren't built of mods. I'd bet more weapons are existing ones with optional mods than a scratchbuilt weapon like the pipe rifle.Crafting is optional, therefore we need to have base guns (juse mentioned to be 50 of those)
I'm going to attempt to make something that resembles a BlasTech EE-3.
Based on that crafting video they put out, I've been assuming that every gun - even the ones you find in loot - are effectively "built" out of mods. Even if you don't do crafting. Like that rifle you just found has the basic Rifle receiver/core piece, with Barrel 2, Stock 3, Grip 1, and Bayonet 2. The one the other raider was carrying has the same "core" - it's a Rifle - but a different barrel & stock, and no bayonet. Etc.
Maybe I'm wrong.
(well, I'd kind of been thinking that unique/named guns would have something special about them, that would likely limit the modding that could happen to them)
I dunno if it can be that equal a split. The way weapon crafting works, it looks like some base weapons can be turned into pistols, rifles, shotguns, assault rifles, and even sniper rifles; we know this is true for Laser, Plasma, and Pipe Guns. If those qualify only as three separate base weapons, then there's a lot of potential in this system. It would definitely be "less is more".
After seeing the crafting vid my fear is that we can make the same gun a hundred different ways, with no real difference between any of them. I liked adding mods to guns in FONV, but this just seems like a lot of overkill just so some PR guy can say "we have thousands of guns!".
