Anyways, what are all of your thoughts on the weapons we've seen? Likes, dislikes, hopes, etc.
Gauss weapons. I'm hoping if we can switch out the stock/grip on laser and plasma weapons to convert them from rifles to pistols or vice versa, the same thing can be done for Gauss Rifles and I can go through the game with a Gauss Pistol - a hand cannon, if you will. And I'm definitely going to rock the Laser Musket - hopefully it or another energy weapon works like the Mega Buster and can be charged up for a stronger shot.
That Assault Rifle does look weird, but then I'm not sure I'll be using any conventional guns.
I agree, the assault rifle does look weird, reminds me of a maxim machine gun but cut down into a lighter version(or a http://www.rjmilitaria.com/images/0815%20left%20sideB.jpg)
Besides that I really looking forward to customizing guass weapons so I can hopefully recreate my beloved M72.
I want that M14.
Based on the Combat video we got, it looks like we can change the fire mode of certain guns. The 10mm is first a Semi-Auto, but we also see it fire Full-Auto, etc. It got me wondering if this M14 is actually a Hunting Rifle that had it's Bolt-Action changed out.
Either way, I want it.
I hope the pistols are powerful enough to be viable in combat.
I didn't realize the LMG-looking thing from the E3-presentation was "Assault Rifle." I like it, because, well, it looks like an old-timey LMG (I also liked the Automatic Rifle in New Vegas).
There's at least one other assault rifle -like weapon that doesn't look like the LMG-looking Assault Rifle (was in the E3-presentation's combat part).
The Assault Rifle can likely be customized to be more candied to your eye.
M14 or similar has a good chance. They've not pulled any wool over our eyes so far.
I know everyone is going nuts about the ability to basically "build" your own weapons from the junk that's scattered around, but I'm hoping that many of the old 'pre-war' weapons show up on the table again.
The Thompson SMG, the lever action .20 gauge, the 1911 .45, the Springfield Garand, there were a lot of guns that I preferred using over the techie 10 mm pistols or the assault carbines they tended to leave laying around. I'd even go for a black powder musket that clouds out your screen with white smoke for a second every time you pull the trigger, lol.
With fingers crossed I'm saying that I hope they have pre-fabed some of the old fan favorites and scattered them around and aren't planning to leave it to the player to recreate their favorite guns using duct tape, baby bottles, and a handful of screws.
Hopefully they talked to someone about actual calibers and ammunition types this time instead of trying to make it up as they went, lol. If I stumble over a rifle chambered in .32 I may just develop a twitch.
I'm definitely looking forward to what the modding scene can cook up this time around. New base weapons. Mods for already existing weapons. Mods for mods of already existing weapons... I get a smile just thinking about it.
And gauss. Cannot wait till I find my first gauss weapon and fall in love with that sound effect all over again.
I think with the way they've divided perks, pistols will actually be very powerful well into the endgame. It's not all just one Small Guns perk, we've got Gunslinger for pistols (and they've talked about extra ranks increasing the range, disarming enemies, and instantly crippling limbs), Commando for automatic rifles, and Rifleman for non-automatic rifles. So if you invest in Gunslinger only, you'll potentially be completely more effective with pistols than with anything else. I think the same perks apply to their energy weapon equivalents, also, although other perks might exclusively improve energy weapons (I suspect I9 and P7 do that, but who knows) and energy weapons have the same crafting perks.
I like that change, though. Means I can make a wasteland cop or PI that knows how to handle a revolver, but fumbles a bit with a big old rifle. And I can't imagine that a Plasma or Laser Pistol handles significantly differently from a standard pistol in terms of actually shooting it - although you'd obviously require separate knowledge to actually build or modify it, which is exactly what happens.
I just hope Beth knew how to make a minigun this time around...
Totally agreed! Hopefully the weapon selection in F4 will eclipse all previous fallout games.
